Honeypreet Insan tracked: 10 things we now know about her, Ram Rahim and Vishwas Gupta
Gurmeet Ram Rahim's "favourite angel" and his alleged adopted daughter has finally been traced by the India Today Group. A visually-shaken and scared Honeypreet Insan has claimed innocence. In a freewheeling interview, she broke her silence laying bare her fears and objections with how things have moved over the past month or so.
Here are the key things to know:
1) Honeypreet has denied any impure relationship with "papa" Ram Rahim Singh. She has questioned if it was wrong for a father to keep his hands on his daughter or for a daughter to love her father.
2) She has questioned the evidence against Ram Rahim in the rape cases. Honeypreet asked how a 20-year sentence can take place on the basis of one letter and went on to ask why the opinions of other women in the Dera were not taken into account.
3) She also defended Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh over allegations of skeletons being recovered from the Dera. She has questioned the basis of such charges. "There have been only talks so far and nothing has been proved."
4) Honeypreet has claimed there is no evidence to prove that she instigated the riots. She claimed she had permission to be in the court and then accompany "papa" to Rohtak in an army helicopter.
"I don't know why my name has been brought into this. I was in the chopper with 'papa' when he was being taken to the jail. We were not even aware of any unrest."
5) She has also claimed she did not surrender because she does not know the legal process. She did "what people guided me to do". Honeypreet hasn't elaborated on who the people guiding her were.
6) She has also refuted claims that she tagged along with Ram Rahim to pursue her dreams of being an actress. She said she only aspired to be behind the camera.
7) She has provided no clarity on how she managed to give a slip to the police for the past 36 days after a lookout notice was issued against her.
8) Honeypreet said the way media covered her has made her fear her own self. She said she had been incorrectly portrayed as an "anti-national" which was far removed from reality.
9) Honeypreet has been taking legal advice all through the episode. She has said she will consult her counsel over whether and when she should surrender.
10) She has also clarified that her ex-husband Vishwas Gupta means nothing to her and therefore the allegations levelled on her relationship with Gurmeet Ram Rahim have no basis.
