Vaccine is the amrit of 2021. During the Covid-19 pandemic, getting fully vaccinated is one common goal that the government as well the citizens are striving to achieve. Creating awareness about the effectiveness of vaccination is one basic step that the government has been taking since Day 1. But ordinary is boring, right?
So, some government officials in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, have come up with an unusual idea to boost their Covid vaccination drive. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has announced a lucky draw. One fully-vaccinated person will get a surprise: a smartphone worth Rs 60,000.
BUT THERE ARE RULES TO BE FOLLOWED
Let’s take you through them first.
People who take their second dose between December 1 and 7, are eligible for the contest. A lucky draw will help decide the winner. The draw ill be conducted by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
This is not the first time that AMC has organised such an event. They have earlier distributed packets of edible oil to thousands of vaccinated people.
While a phone worth Rs 60,000 might be a little too good (and too tough, hello luck!) to be true, there are some other (comparatively) easier gifts to get if you are fully vaccinated.
1. FREE HELMET AND DINNER SETS
Nuh, a district in Haryana, offered a discount on medicines, free helmets and dinner sets to vaccinated individuals. In October 2021, health ministers across the country shared a report, which showed Nuh in Haryana with the lowest vaccination rate. To improve this rate, Nuh Deputy Commissioner Shakti Singh collaborated with local chemists to offer a discount of 10% on medicines to fully vaccinated people. Another scheme offered free helmet and dinner sets on purchasing a bike if you are fully vaccinated.
2. ANOTHER LUCKY DRAW
Chandrapur Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra also announced a lucky draw to ensure maximum vaccination. The lucky draw offered bumper prizes like LED TVs, refrigerators and washing machines to fully vaccinated people. Those who took their jab from November 12 to 24 this year were allowed to participate in the lucky draw.
3. CASH FOR JAB
The MyGovIndia Twitter handle announced on May 19, 2021, that one lucky winner will stand a chance to win Rs 5,000. All you had to do is “share your vaccination picture with an interesting tagline.” Feeling sad for missing this opportunity? Me too!

4. WAIT, WHAT! GOLD FOR FREE
In April 2021, in Gujarat’s Rajkot, the goldsmith community offered freebies - including real gold - to vaccinated people. They decided to give gold nose pins to women and hand blenders (not gold ones, no) to men.
THINGS YOU WON’T GET FOR MISSING ONE
While many are providing free stuff, the Kerala government decided to withdraw a few free facilities for unvaccinated people. The Kerala government declared on November 30 that unvaccinated people who contract Covid-19 will not have access to free treatment.
