DailyOh! Chorus Bengaluru rioters raised, to what Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister wants

The FIR has named five people. The five may give out the other names.

The only thing more stressful than paying taxes is understanding how to pay taxes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today offered some simplicity with a platform called Transparent Taxation - Honouring the Honest. The dishonest too will be forced to comply. But what unites the honest and the dishonest is a lack of understanding of the process. What does Modi’s honouring of the honest offer? In his own words, “... Faceless assessment, faceless appeal and taxpayer charter [are] part of new platform.”

The effort, he said, is to “make tax system seamless, painless and faceless”. How can paying taxes ever be painless? Trust your CA to explain that but also trust her to bill you for the explanation.

The only agency Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister Shweta Singh Kirti trusts to get her justice is the CBI. In a video message, Shweta has asked for an unbiased inquiry into her brother’s death to dig out the truth.

The family has gone all guns blazing against Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and the demand for CBI probe has found support from Sushant’s ex-girlfriend Ankita Lokhande. What was Sushant’s demand from life? A Hollywood role in 2020. Many say this diary noting is proof he did not kill himself. If Sushant changed his demands from life, he left no proof of it. Or did he? His family wants CBI to probe.

Charges and counter-charges are on but the Supreme Court verdict on who will probe the case is pending.

A FIR has however been filed in the Bengaluru riots case by Bengaluru Police. The FIR says the mob that attacked DJ Halli police station was shouting, “kill the police”. If the police did not post anything derogatory on Facebook why "kill the police"? The mob is mindless and namelss so no point asking the mob.

The mob may be nameless but the police FIR mentions five names for the violence. If the five are caught they could name other names.

But China has named India for unfair trade practices. The PLA won’t leave the Pangong Lake area in Ladakh but wants India to ease trade restrictions. Chinese ambassador to India Sun Weidong in an article has written, “Any self-protection, non-tariff barriers and restrictive measures against China are unfair to everyone concerned.” Since when has China started to bother about ‘everyone’? That is a wrong question to ask because neither has the process started, nor are there any signs of it taking off.

But the frozen chicken wings that took off from Brazil and landed in China apparently tested positive for the Wuhan virus. The virus took off from China and landed back all frozen. This is being hailed as the first case of sample testing positive from the surface of the meat. So far, the virus was detected on packaging of frozen food items that China imported.

In India, the virus has infected 82-year-old Nritya Gopal Das, the trust head of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra. On August 5, PM Modi was seen meeting and greeting Gopal Das, who chose to ditch the mask while meeting and greeting the PM.

India has reached over 24,00,000 million cases and AIIMS director, who is also directing India’s Covid-19 fight, Randeep Guleria says the peak is not here yet.

Most parts of the country, however, are wet. It’s raining infections and it’s raining rain. If you are an Indian and enjoying rain, you are most likely inside your house. If you are out and enjoying rain, there is very little chance you are in India. Waterlogging and traffic jams can happen without rains in India, but rains can’t happen without the two.

Let’s leave the talk of rain woes for another day. Let’s talk rain love today. Most prosaic people can turn poets when it begins to pour, although there is no guarantee they will excel at the job. Bad news: mostly they don’t.

Ignore them. Focus on the rain. What does that make you? Rude.

But it also makes you a pluviophile. We will get to the meaning after we get the pronunciation of the word out of the way.

So pluviophile - pronounced plu+vio+file – is a combination of two Latin words. ‘Pluvia’ which means rain and ‘Phile’, a slang word used to describe a lover of something. Together pluviophile, the Word Of The Day, is a lover of rain. How to identify a rain lover? See if rain gives the person peace of mind.

And just because your mummy shouted at you for getting the mud-soaked chappal inside the house during rain doesn’t rule her out of the list of pluviophiles. She may make it to two lists at the same time: pluviophile and cleanliness freak.

There has been some rain coming Imran Khan’s way too. Not the actor Imran, the Pakistani Prime Minister and former cricketer Imran. It’s raining criticism for him from another former cricketer – Javed Miandad. Miandad has accused Khan of favouring foreigners over countrymen for several key positions in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Khan favoured another Khan for the post of PCB Chief. Only this Khan, named Wasim, has been born and brought up in England.

Miandad has also accused Khan of acting like God. But Miandad won’t take any of this lying down – or standing up. He has promised to enter politics and then talk to Imran. Who is he talking to right now? Whoever cares to listen.

In Pakistan, you can ignore Miandad at your own risk. Miandad’s son is married to Dawood Irahim’s daughter, so Miandad is a sort of Chhota Don.

Shahid Afridi learnt it the ‘Don’ way. It all began when Miandad accused Afridi of asking for a farewell match purely for money. Afridi hit back saying "money had always been an issue for Miandad, which separated him from Imran Khan".

Dawood said nothing.

Miandad then poked Afridi some more, saying the latter was involved in match-fixing and that he had himself caught Afridi in the act. Now, Afridi threatened legal action.

Dawood then dialled Afridi to save his daughter’s father-in-law. In South Asia, you got to keep your daughter's in-laws happy to keep her happy. And who can come in the way of the happiness of Don's daughter.

On October 12, 2016, Dawood is reported to have called Afridi and told him to "either shut up or face the consequences".

That’s not a tough choice to make. Why face consequences when you can easily shut up? Nothing about the legal route was heard from Afridi post October 12 that year.

People are however speaking their mind out against Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt-starrer movie Sadak 2 on YouTube, one dislike at a time. So far, the movie’s trailer has collected 63,00,000 dislikes. The most disliked Indian video on the YouTube has 18 million - 1,80,00,000 dislikes. Can Sadak 2 get there? The only way to know is to keep checking the official trailer.

Janhvi Kapoor’s movie Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl released yesterday. Worth a like or to be disliked? Find a review answer here. You can form your opinion then.

See you tomorrow.
