Bihar man took 11 Covid vaccine shots. 6 things you should not do with the jab

While initially many were hesitant to take the jab, a man from Bihar took 11 shots fearlessly. Read that number again: 11. And he is insisting the authorities to give him the 12th one. Brahmadeo Mandal, an 84-year-old man from Bihar got 11 shots of the Covid vaccine. He went to get the 12th one but got caught before he could have the 12th jab. Mandal is a resident of Orai village in Madhepura district, Bihar. He is a retired employee of the postal department.

He took his first shot on February 13, 2021, and till December 30, he got 11 vaccine shots at different vaccine centres. He used his Aadhar card and phone number eight times and his wife’s voter ID card and phone number for the rest. Mandal said that vaccination is a great initiative by the government. He believes that the vaccine is benefitting him in many ways and is helping him manage health issues. He also mentioned that he felt better after every shot.

IT’S VACCINE, NOT A PAIN KILLER!

As the country waits for booster shots during the Omicron wave, such incidents raise alarm about the loopholes in vaccine distribution. In a country with a population of 138 crore, vaccination distribution seems a neverending process. And then there are people like our 11-shot man.

The bottomline is that underneath all the shortcomings, it is important for the citizens to take vaccination seriously.

If you are getting vaccinated, here’s what you should be careful of:

1. MAINTAIN THE ADVISED GAP BETWEEN THE TWO DOSES

It is medically essential to maintain the right gap between the first and the second dose. Increasing or decreasing may affect the effect of vaccine. For Covisheild, the prescribed gap is 84 days. People getting Covaxin should maintain the gap of 4 to 6 weeks.

2. DO NOT USE VACCINE FOR OTHER AILMENTS

This Bihar man felt better after every dose and he believed that his overall health was improving. But it is crucail to understand that it is a vaccine against Covid infection, not other diseases. So, let's just get the purpose right.

3. DO NOT REPEAT VACCINE WITHOUT PERMISSION

Please do not stand in line at the vaccine centre for the third shot considering it a booster shot. There will be rules and medical guidelines on when booster shots will be given.

4. VACCINE IS NOT EQUAL TO NO-COVID

Many Covidiots believe that vaccination will give you full protection against Covid. That the vaccine will probably make you invincible and keep the virus far, far away. But the truth is different: you are still at the risk of catching the virus after getting vaccinated. So, keep your mask on.

5. DO NOT TRY BUYING THE VACCINE FROM JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE OR ANYONE

Even if you see a number of advertisements and discounts, do not think of buying the Covid vaccine from any random shop. Only government-approved camps and hospitals should be visited for vaccination. In short: don't fall for the many, many vaccine scams that crowded headlines back when vaccines just began being administered. We're wiser now, no?

6. DO NOT USE SOMEONE ELSE'S ID PROOF

This Bihar man used his wife's identity proof to get the jab. This is a bad idea. Do not use someone else's ID proof as it is essential to get your own ID number registered on the government portal.

After getting your jab, keep your vaccine certificate safe and obviously do not get more than the two prescribed doses like our man Mandal here.

As we are in the middle of the third wave, get vaccinated (if not done yet) and mask up. But get the adequate dose (not 11, for sure!).
