Films Bobby Deol should have stayed away from

Once upon a time, Bobby Deol - who is celebrating his 51st birthday today (January 27) - was known as a Bollywood actor. Well, almost. Irrespective of his acting skills (or the lack of it), he earned a following with films like BarsaatGupt and SoldierThe younger son of Bollywood's eternal heart-throb, Dharmendra, Bobby with his long locks and dimples, captured the imagination of a whole generation during the 1990s.

However, almost 20 years after his biggest hit, Soldier, it is safe to say that Bobby's charm has waned, and how. With questionable career choices and even more questionable life choices - remember the DJ act at the Royal Plaza in Delhi – Bobby somehow managed to ruin the unruinable - the acting career of a star kid.

On his 51st birthday, let's take a look at the worst career choices he's made. From Bichhoo to Poster Boys, let's hit the playlist for a 101 on "how to ruin your Bollywood career".

Bichhoo

The internet is flooded with countless articles, posts and memes making fun of Bobby Deol's acting prowess. Ever wondered what started it? Well, the audience was Bichhoo-stung.

IMDB describes it as a movie about "a contract killer with a tragic past trains a teenage girl to avenge the murder of her family and falls for her in the process". The real deal is even more cringeworthy as the actor is seen living with a little bichhoo (scorpion) in his apartment taking up jobs as a contract killer just to get over his tragic past.

However, things change for the worse when a troubled teenage girl (Rani Mukerjee) enters the frame and turns to him for comfort. From there the two start flirting, and fighting the "bad guys" and dancing to some extremely forgettable songs.

Overall, the film - a bad copy of Luc Besson’s Leon-The Professional - brings out the worst in Bobby and his inability to dance or act.

Next up is the movie which ruined a much-loved TV series by the same name for a whole generation. Starring Bobby Deol, Celina Jaitley, Upen Patel and Kangana Ranaut, the movie was a complete disaster. Falling back on IMDB for help again, the movie is described as "a tale of two different musicians, dramatically different but united in their passion for music, set against the backdrop of the international music industry." However, the movie is anything but that.

As Wogma explains in its review, "The key word here is 'two'. Who wins when you have Himesh Reshammiya versus Himesh Reshammiya? Don't know about that. But, I surely know who loses. Us!" Guess that explains why it finds a place in this list of questionable career choices by Bobby Deol.

Poster Boys

"Imagine a 20-minute television sketch stretched to last 128 minutes, fitted out with the world’s silliest fatuous jokes?" That's how Deccan Chronicle's Arnab Banerjee describes the movie in his review, and it's difficult to say we don't agree.

Cast alongside his elder brother, Sunny Deol and Shreyas Talpade, this comeback from Bobby Deol was more of a retirement message.

Light at the end of the tunnel

Despite such flops to his credit, Bobby it seems is not done yet. The actor is all set to make a comeback (God, no!) with Salman Khan's Race 3. Bobby, who has been working on his fitness for a while now, will reportedly be seen in a role with negative shades (we hope it's not just his Ray-Ban shades) and (wait) without his shirt in one of the scenes during the movie. The actor has surprised everyone with his superlative physical transformation. Here's a sneak peek.

Well, on his birthday, one can just wish someone knocks some sense into him. Happy birthday, Bobby Deol. Stay blessed.
