Why Kangana Ranaut is Bollywood’s unbeatable queen of frankness

Kangana lashed out at him for making the industry a breeding ground on nepotism.

Actor Kangana Ranaut might not have as many hits as many of her contemporaries. But she has become the “queen” of the industry, and has to her credit real-life stunts in which she never falters to take on people in power, be it a famous actor or a director. While her legal battle with Hrithik Roshan was much discussed, she has been the talk of the tinsel town for a range of issues: her "fake" accent, her high-handedness, political incorrectness, her digs at established norms of the industry, and her recent enthusiasm surrounding Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Here are some controversies in which the actor got embroiled.

Kangana versus Paris Hilton

In 2011, Kangana Ranaut claimed that she had been approached by Paris Hilton to be the face of Hilton’s clothing line in India. The claims were dismissed by Paris Hilton’s spokesperson in the country. It was also said that the duo might have met through actor Adhyayan Suman, whom Kangana was dating at that time. However, Hilton did not even remember Kangana. Kangana, however, stuck to her claims.

Relationships with Aditya Pancholi, Adhyayan Suman

During the initial days of her career, she was in a relationship with Aditya Pancholi. This remained no secret after Kangana Ranaut came out in public revealing how she was physically tortured by the director. She even sought help from Aditya Pancholi's wife, who refused to entertain her requests.

While this relationship ended on a bitter note with both the parties blaming the other, Kangana Ranaut moved on to date Adhyayan Suman, Sekhar Suman’s son, for a brief period. There were rumours of her relationships with Ajay Devgn and a British doctor named Nicholas Lafferty as well.

How the Hrithik episode opened a can of worms

The Hrithik Roshan episode hit Kangana Ranaut at a time she was at the peak of success, having earned accolades for women-centric movies. Instead of trying to safeguard her success, she responded to the actor's claims about her and also dragged Rakesh Roshan's name into the controversy. According to her, she informed Rakesh Roshan that she was being harassed and stalked by Hrithik. On a popular television show, she slammed the father-son duo for dividing the industry into two camps; she said she was in the weaker camp.

Nepotism and Karan Johar

While it has been a norm for Bollywood celebrities to hobnob with Karan Johar on his chat show Koffee with Karan, Kangana lashed out at him for making the industry a breeding ground for nepotism. “In my biopic, if it is ever made, you will play this stereotypical Bollywood biggie who is snooty and completely intolerant to outsiders and flag-bearer of nepotism, the movie mafia. You will have a huge part to play in my biopic. I like the antagonist in you in my biopic,” she told Johar. She also reminded Karan Johar that he used to make fun of the way she spoke English, saying it had motivated her and made her what she is.

'Why should I act with the Khans?'

In an interview, she was asked about her plans about working with the Khans. "Why should I work with the Khans? In the beginning, I wanted to have a conventional, very easy route where I can work with big heroes and be a big heroine. Now I get a lot of offers to work with the Khans. When I wanted work, nobody was ready to work with me. Now that I'm my own hero on the sets, why should I work with other heroes?" was her terse reply.
