'Contact lens' for fish to a hotel called weird: Top 5 unbelievable news of the week

What the fish?

A store in Kuwait has something really, really fishy going on. It has been shut down after it was found out that the owners were sticking "googly eyes" on fish in an attempt to make them appear fresher.

Wow, what a 'fresh' idea!

Live-insect heist

Thieves reportedly 'broke into' a Philadelphia museum to steal thousands of live spiders, including the venomous six-eyed sand spider, scorpions and other exotic insects. Around 7,000 creatures have been reportedly missing from the Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion – Science Museum for Kids. "I'm not sure there's ever been a larger live-insect heist," John Cambridge, the owner, told CNN September 5. "Our insurance doesn't cover this. Why would they? This is unprecedented."

The thefts — believed to be around 80 per cent of the museum's collection — occurred during the week of August 20. Their total value is said to be more than $40,000. The theft reportedly appears to have been an inside job as security cameras show some employees carrying boxes of insects from the building over several days beginning on August 21.

"We know exactly who did this. They snuck out the back with all these boxes. We caught them on camera," he said. "They took all the stuff and then they didn't show up for their shifts." According to the CNN, about a dozen of the insects were recovered from the home of a suspect, but the others remain missing. Police are investigating, but no arrests have been made so far.

Well, stealing anyway is a creepy thing to do. Isn't it?

Lamb-scaping services, really?

Manhattan’s Basilica of Old St Patrick’s Cathedral has hired three new “lamb scapers” that will  spend the next six weeks tending to its grounds. According to the New York Post, the newest members of the flock ― named Houston, Prince and Spring ― are the fifth group of sheep to be brought to the church and will spend their visit grazing on the historic grounds.

Welcome to hotel weird

A Japanese hotel is welcoming its guests with a reception desk manned by robot dinosaurs. According to AFP, the hotel belongs to the Henn na (whose name means “weird”) chain. "The reception at the Henn na Hotel east of Tokyo is eerily quiet until customers approach the robot dinosaurs manning the front desk. Their sensors detect the motion and they bellow welcome," says the same report.

The front desk staff are a pair of giant dinosaurs that look like cast members of the Jurassic Park movies, except for the tiny bellboy hats perched on their heads.

'Big foot' returns

Scientists reportedly have discovered some huge footprints after a robot was sent 4 km below the Pacific Ocean’s surface, between Mexico and Hawaii.

The huge markings — 2.5 metres long and 13 inches deep — lie too deep for any known animal to have made them.
