5 memes to best describe my 2018

Testing times!

For the greater part of my life, I didn’t know what a meme was. But now that I am confident enough to both quantify and qualify my 2018 through just five memes proves how millennial I am.

Isn’t this beautiful about the end of a year — that you realise who you are and embrace it (before regretting it, of course)?

It’s difficult to explain why I love memes to those who do not share the same adoration. Like, my parents are not interested, some of my school friends often ask me to explain why a meme is funny, etc.

Now, one can’t explain why a meme is funny. It’s like a WiFi network — either you connect, or you don’t. There is no need for dialling again and again.

So, here are the top five memes that best describe my 2018 — from beginning to end.

1. Daisy Shah meme (January to March)

This was my mood in the early part of 2018. Any question you asked, this would be my reply.

Daisy Shah, with her non-existing acting skills but superb confidence, was my spirit animal. It was like me with my zero foresight, topped up with utmost confidence.

Question: So, what are your 2018 goals?

Answer: My business is my business, none of your business.

2. Ganesh Gaitonde meme (April to June)

This is that time when I started realising that 2018 was going to be exactly like 2017, 2016 and 2015 — but I managed to retain my 'Ganesh Gaitonde' spirit.

Question: How’s 2018 going?

Answer: Kabhi kabhi (1st of every month) lagta hai ki apun hi bhagwan hai!

3. One taught me love… (July to November)

Then s*** started getting real.

If you love memes, you are pretty much there on social media, and you have to go through a lot of online activism.

You have to bear with bigots calling out other bigots, hyprocrites calling out other hypocrites, my hatred versus your hatred, my mansplaining versus your mansplaining, etc.

Question: So, how’s 2018 treating you?

Answer: (Not in Ariana Grande swag though) One taught me love, one taught me patience, one taught me pain.

4. Zuckerberg testimony meme (December 1 to December 25)

Testing times!

I don’t know how those who make and share memes throughout the year suddenly start journaling their achievements on Twitter.

Like, seriously? Who are you fooling?

These are testing times when I felt like Mark Zuckerberg, of course, without the charges of breaching data privacy.

But yes, plenty of questions hurled at me, mostly by my self-esteem, triggered by online people whom I don’t know.

Questions: (A list of them)

Answer: Blank

5. Ajay Devgn samosa meme (December 26 - December 31)

That moment at the end of 2018 when I understood that only Ajay Devgn and a samosa can do this — not me.

I can’t place one foot there and another foot here; I can’t make everyone happy. (For that, you have to be either an Ajay Devgn or a samosa).

Well, that’s a wrap of 2018.
