Ashes or not, no way David Bowie went up in flames at Burning Man

David Bowie

"I'm an instant star. Just add water and stir," he said. But there's no way Ziggy Stardust is letting his ashes fly, yet. David Bowie, the first of his name in pop culture history, is not going to go up in flames with the Temple at the Burning Man festival, but British tabloids have had a field day floating rumours about how the rock legend's ashes have been scattered at the arts and culture carnival.

What better tribute could Blackstar pay himself? That's a revolutionary thought, only it's not Bowie's and a little too mainstream for the rebel who gave eccentricity a run for its money.

E! online was first to report the iconic development. And we assume it was under the influence of things more powerful than The Man Who Sold The World.

They wrote: "Bowie's wife Iman gave the singer's godchild permission to take a portion of his ashes, the insider adds, as the two had a special connection to the often-spiritual event. 'David's godchild and David had long talks about Burning Man and what it stands for, and David loved the message behind it,' our source tells us."

With a claim like that, David Bowie had to trend all day, only his son Duncan Jones settled the dust for good with his tweet:

It's sure been a hard day for fans. Meanwhile, listen to Ashes to Ashes. This one by Bowie himself. We promise.
