DailyOh! What was Gupteshwar Pandey’s role in 2012 Navaruna case, to why Deepika praised Ayushmann

Bihar DGP is now not the DGP because he has resigned voluntarily. In his own head, he may continue in his Robinhood avatar.

Coronavirus influenced all lives, across all continents in 2020. Yet coronavirus is not the most influential person of 2020, according to Time magazine because, quite obviously, coronavirus is not a person but a virus, who needs a person’s body to spread its influence.

Indians, who can do that using their own body and mind, according to Time magazine, are Prime Minister Narendra Modi, actor Ayushmann Khurrana, and Shaheen Bagh wali dadi, Bilkis. They are on the list of Time’s 100 most influential people across the world.

And guess who has praised Khurrana for making it to the list? The actor who has unfortunately figured on NCB’s purported list of maal-seekers and consumers - Deepika Padukone. Padukone hasn’t spoken in her own defence so far because, come on, who is listening anyway. Padukone meanwhile is in Goa, not scoring, but shooting for Shakun Batra’s untitled film. She has been summoned by the NCB to be questioned over drug consumption, on September 25.

Sara Ali Khan too has been called in. Shraddha Kapoor has also received the grilling summons. Shraddha and Sara are to be at the NCB office for questioning on September 26.

Rahul Preet and Simone Khambatta will also make an appearance before the NCB tomorrow.

NCB is asking a lot of questions but perhaps NCB should also be asked have they tried to figure out who was Jaya Shah scoring drugs from to distribute among the Bollywood stars? Why not go up the chain to see where it leads rather than go downhill and reach a dead end? Well, that's their road to take.

Rhea Chakraborty and brother Showik are in Mumbai and not going anywhere today as the Bombay High Court will take up their bail pleas tomorrow because the court declared it a rainy day today.

The Bihar cop, who had questioned Rhea’s aukaat, meanwhile, has declared who he is – ‘Robinhood Bihar Ke’. Bihar DGP Robinhood Pandey is now not the DGP because he has resigned voluntarily. In his own head, Gupteshwar Pandey may continue in his Robinhood avatar.

In our own head, the video took us back to the 2012 Navaruna case, where the cop Pandey came under the dock for his alleged shoddy investigation. The investigation of that case under him.

He was Muzaffarpur IGP then. What was the case?

On the intervening night of September 18-19, 2012, a 12-year-old girl named Navaruna was abducted from her own house. The abductors cut the grill in Navaruna’s room to take her away.

The police could not find her. On November 26 the same year, her bones were found in a drain next to her house.

The case went from the police, to the CID, and then to CBI in 2014. In 2018, the CBI asked for an extension in the case from Supreme Court saying it needed to investigate the bureaucrat-land mafia nexus in the case and investigate officers connected to the case. Robinhood Pandey was on that list.

Navaruna’s father had alleged that the abduction and killing was the handiwork of two syndicates – one who picked her up and the other who threw her bones in the drain to make it look like a case of honour killing. Pandey was accused of then intimidating Navaruna’s family. The case could never be solved. Pandey went to become the DIG from IGP. He has now become Robinhood. Pandey is also likely to become BJP’s candidate from Bihar’s Buxar.

We don’t know where Pandey will land, but Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s sixes have landed for former cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir’s criticism. Gambhir has said that Dhoni’s sixes were ‘personal runs’. Is there such a thing as shared runs? No, but there are runs that can lead to team wins and then there are runs scored just for the record. Gambhir’s allegation is that in yesterday’s match against Rajasthan Royals, the Chennai Super Kings captain chose to bat down the order which led to the team’s loss.

A ball that Dhoni hit for six landed on the streets outside the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. A fan then picked up the ball and walked off. Classic case of the well walking to thirsty, and the unheard case of the thirsty walking away with the well.

That's one lucky man who gets the ball that was hit by MS Dhoni for a mighty six ???? #Dream11IPL #RRvCSK

But have you heard of Bombay going to Goa and then going to jail? We are talking about Sam Bombay, actor Poonam Pandey’s husband of 13 days. According to the police, the arrest happened after the new bride complained that husband Bombay had molested, assaulted and threatened her.

How can a marriage hit rock bottom in just 13 days? Why not, if a Parliament session can end in all but 10 days. The Rajya Sabha today wrapped up the Monsoon Session after commencing on September 14. In 1979, the Monsoon Session was however just one-day long (or short, or shortest, as you may want to call it).

If these figures amaze you, we have figures that may amuse you. In December 2018, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) told that the government incurred a cost of Rs 2,021 crore on PM Modi's foreign trips (including the maintenance of Air India One) since 2014. In March 2020, the MEA said Rs 446 crore was spent on PM's foreign tours in the last five years. Yesterday, the MEA said the expenditure was Rs 517 crore. We wonder if the government is confused or just checking us on our maths.

The government has meanwhile told the Supreme Court that it can ask the airlines to give people 0.5 per cent interest on ticket refunds in case refunds are delayed. Airlines say they would prefer to give credit shells because that is what many customers prefer to take.

In good news for Apple customers, Apple Store Online launched in India today. Why is this good? Because so far Apple product aspirants could buy Apple products only from e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart. Now they can buy straight from the company store. Apple products can burn a hole in your pocket and so the store will act as a fire tender for those who want to buy Apple products but can’t sneeze out the entire money in one go. They can sneeze out the amount, one cough at a time. Mask or no mask.

The word apple, which is the Word Of The Day, and the fruit for all days, has Germanic roots - æppel, and meant fruit in general.

In his 2006 book iWoz: Computer Geek to Cult Icon, Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak says, “It was a couple of weeks later when we came up with a name for the partnership. I remember I was driving Steve Jobs back from the airport along Highway 85. Steve was coming back from a visit to Oregon to a place he called an “apple orchard.” It was actually some kind of commune. Steve suggested a name – Apple Computer. The first comment out of my mouth was, “What about Apple Records?” This was (and still is) the Beatles-owned record label. We both tried to come up with technical-sounding names that were better, but we couldn’t think of any good ones. Apple was so much better, better than any other name we could think of.”

Today, though, we have a different book recommendation for you. We mean if you want to read iWoz, you can. But you should also read A Gentleman in Moscow, a novel that revolves around a man who is sentenced to spend his life under house arrest at a grand hotel in Moscow at a time Bolsheviks have just assumed power.

From Moscow, let’s take a connecting flight to Nepal. The connecting flight will halt in China, whose incursions are now being opposed by Nepal.

Protests broke out in front of the Chinese Embassy today in Kathmandu over the illegal construction of 9-11 houses in Humla district of Nepal. The incursions have been confirmed by Nepal authorities. Meanwhile, tension continues in the Ladakh region where Indian troops have been engaged in a bitter standoff with Chinese soldiers since April-May.

China is a bully who counseling can’t fix. A new report shows that China was carrying out cyber-attacks against India all along 2012-2018. China’s got no chill. All it knows is to encroach and kill.

Don’t complain about the bad rhyming if you still haven’t complained about China.

Who should you have complained to? Not the World Health Organisation (WHO), says Chinese virologist, Li-Meng Yan.

Li-Meng, who has alleged China had 'manufactured' Covid-19 in a Wuhan lab, has now said the WHO was part of the cover-up.

Now to France, where a bomb threat is looming over Eiffel Tower. After a phone-in threat, the Eiffel Tower was evacuated. The tower opens everyday, except for days there are suicide threats, bomb threats or labour strikes. We hope the threat is a hoax and nothing more.

With that, we will wrap up for today.

See you tomorrow.
