Itni thand kyu hai bhai? 5 types of people on Twitter during Delhi winter

For the past few days, North India has been experiencing its coldest period this winter season. So far, we mean. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cold wave conditions over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan for the next two days as well.

The situation in the Himalayan region is, of course, colder than the states listed above, with minimum temperatures falling in negatives. But if you were to scroll through Twitter or any other social media platform, you would think that it’s snowing in Delhi and other neighbouring states.

Delhi people especially have been whining about the cold weather. This has sent Twitter on a meme riot on the Delhi chill.

Here are 5 types of people on Twitter during Delhi winter:

1. RECOUNTING TRUE NEAR-FREEZE EXPERIENCES

Taking a shower during the Delhi winter is quite a nerve-wracking experience in itself (literal physical nerves are involved). Have you ever felt that while standing underneath a burning cascade of water from the shower, when your entire body is comfortably warm, but it feels as if you are standing on burning ice?

The sensation in the feet, in a hot shower, during Delhi winter, is torture. Combine that with periods, and it’s difficult to distinguish what’s worse.

2. TELLING ANTARCTICA THAT IT’S NOT COLD ENOUGH

This tweet sums up how Delhi people have been imposing their thought that winter in the capital is colder than anywhere else, on anyone willing to listen to them. If not then, there are those asking whether the water is coming directly from Antarctica.

It doesn’t seem like Delhi people are lucky enough to get pure, unpolluted water from Antarctica. It’s just the same old frothy Yamuna for them all, which other than freezing the hands and the feet during winter, will also rob you of your hair on the head. Meanwhile, meet the penguins (who I didn’t know resided in Delhi) running away from the capital due to the harsh winter!

3. AVOIDING COLD BY GOING TO SNOWING PLACES

Is it a shame that despite all the cribbing and crying about how cold it is in Delhi during winter, it doesn’t snow? Instead, Delhiites just get more pollution and smog to deal with. But netizens say there are some people in Delhi who will go on a vacation to places higher up than Delhi and near the Himalayas, where it snows, to avoid the Delhi chill.

4. TROLLING MUMBAIKARS

It’s not just Delhi and neighbours that are facing the chill this winter season. Even Mumbai has been reporting unusually colder days – for Mumbai. But Delhi netizens are having none of the cribbing from their Mumbai counterparts over chillier days there, fighting over whose winter is the real winter.

5. AM I THE ONLY ONE?

In the middle of all the whining, some people need constant validation too. There were netizens who tried to validate feeling cold by asking whether everyone else was feeling the chill too? The need for social approval and not sticking out, burns quite strong even when discussing the weather!

The cold days are not going to leave North India any time soon it seems, so keep warm under that electric blanket, braving an electrocution hazard. Or, you know, the good old method of using layers and layers and layers of blankets and quilts...
