Standing taller than the Taj: The dump yard of Ghazipur
- Total Shares
India's tallest rubbish mountain in Delhi is set to rise higher than Taj Mahal by 2020.
Ghazipur dump yard is over 65 metres high and is bigger than 40 football pitches, receiving about 2,000 tonnes of garbage every single day. It was opened in 1984 and reached its capacity in 2002 when it should have been closed, but with no alternate waste management system, it grows alarmingly tall each day. The need of the hour is strong laws on waste segregation and recycling.
