A mindless order cost a couple US $600; Rs 46k, that is. They have no regrets

A man misread the cost of Japanese beef and out came a $600 bill. The shocked man regrets nothing though as the beef just

The next time you order in from a posh restaurant, look at the menu twice. Unless you mind spending a few thousand bucks more for a great meal!

WHAT HAPPENED: A couple made a reservation at Gordan Ramsay's famous restaurant, Gordon Ramsay Steak in Atlantic City in the US, and misread the cost for a particular Japanese beef (Kobe) while ordering their meal. Since they had never tried Kobe in a Gordon Ramsay restaurant, their excitement was obvious. The excitement and happiness on eating the melt-in-the-mouth beef turned into a shock when the bill arrived, because it went over and above their normal expectations.

The meal cost them a whopping US $600 (i.e about Rs 45,000), a few hours of tummy ecstacy, and some time on the headlines.

Jeffrey Paige and his girlfriend arrived for their reservation at the Gordon Ramsay Steak. As they were presented with a menu, they looked through a classic white cover menu that looked something like this:

THE REAL DEAL: He had come in to the restaurant to splurge on Wagyu beef, but then he saw another item which was the ''real deal".

Above the American Wagyu beef, on the left, was something called Japanese A5 which mentioned an item called Triple Seared Japanese A5. This is a special type of beef, also known as Kobe, which is known to melt in your mouth and is the finest available meat. Even the pricing surprised him. He probably thought, "The finer Japanese A5 costs less than the Wagyu... How nice..."

This is what it looks like:

SO WHAT WENT WRONG? On the menu, the cost mentioned for Japanese A5 was US $35 per portion (i.e, approx Rs 2,600 per portion), and one had to order a minimum of 4 portions in an order. So that meant, one order alone would cost someone about Rs 10,500.

But Jeffrey assumed that the beef cost about US $35 in total, i.e. Rs 2,600, instead of Rs 10,500.

That is an underestimation of Rs 7,900 per order.

And that's not all. He ordered the same order 4 times - i.e., he ordered 12 portions thinking that the beef was so affordable. Lol.

This misjudgement turned out to be the most memorable one for him because it cost him an additional Rs 32,000.

His meal even included a couple of sides, appetisers and Ramsay's famous Beef Wellington.

Ramsay's Beef Wellington has been a rage and has even been recreated on Masterchef Australia. This is what it looks like:

When he received the bill at the end of the meal, he checked the bill twice.

And then his misjudgement shocked him. His table for 2 had earned Ramsay over US $600 (i.e Rs 46,000).

Though he felt that it was an amazing meal and he was happy to support the staff,  a man making this kind of mistake would never admit to this mistake anyway.

So he gracefully found humour in his mistake and said: "I wish Chef Ramsay was there to come out and call me a donut for f***ing this up lol."

Have you made a costly mistake?
