Lord Ram to be 'sued' for being cruel to Sita: Did Hanuman have visa, Twitter asks

Can gods be questioned? Can they be made accountable for their actions?

In a country where culture deems divinity as "sacred", you might as well banish such an idea before it takes root.

But wait, there is someone in this very land who thinks otherwise. And that is lawyer Thakur Chandan Kumar Singh. Singh not only thinks the "lord" can be held accountable, but even be subjected to litigation.

Singh reportedly filed a "case" in a court of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) in Sitamarhi in Bihar against Lord Ram for exiling "Devi" Sita to the forests for no fault of hers. According to complainant Singh, it qualifies as maltreatment of women and hence shows the Hindu cultural hero in poor light.

“The Devi was exiled (given ‘vanvasa’) for no fault of hers. It was a hypocritical order from king Ram. How can a man become so cruel to his wife that he sends her off to live in a forest?” Singh says in the complaint.

He lamented that Lord Ram did this even after Sita had sworn in front of fire to always live with her husband.

The lawyer cited this as a case of non-cognisable offence committed by Lord Ram, and the CJM agreed to hear the case on February 1.

The chief protagonist of the Ramayana being draggged to court left people amused, so much so that "Lord Ram" started trending on Twitter. Here is a collection of reactions on the popular microblogging site:
