Cool as cucumber shop owner ignores armed robber, serves chicken instead

It can be dubbed the mother of all easy gumption displays. A takeaway shop owner in New Zealand ended up giving an  armed would-be robber the royal ignore and decided to finish serving a customer before walking away.

Footage of the incident from Saturday night last even showed the shop owner, Said Ahmed, smiling as he walked away from the man who was brandishing a gun at him. The video has since gone viral on social media, with frenzied watchers cheering Ahmed's quick thinking and presence of mind, avoiding what could have led to possibly fatal violence.

"The man wanted to frighten me and I decided he couldn't do that," Ahmed, who lives in New Zealand's Christchurch, told reporters, who were too busy figuring out the reasons for Ahmed's quiet but funny fortitude.

Ahmed, who emigrated from Egypt about 20 years ago and has a degree in agricultural engineering, said he witnessed years of violence in Egypt and the "steadiness of New Zealand" had made him calmer.

"My heart was beating quickly, I was scared, but I wasn't going to show him that. That is why my nature is cool. I have been 20 years here and never seen any fighting. In Egypt, it happens every day, but in New Zealand I am calm because it is a safe country," Ahmed said.

"The robber was very confused by my behaviour. He wanted to scare me but I wasn't scared, so I took away his power," he added.

Definitely, one of the coolest things we have heard in a while. That takes some guts, brother.
