Narsingh Yadav was found positive in a doping test by the National Anti Doping Agency on Saturday, July 23.

After all the hoopla about his selection to the Rio Olympics over Sushil Kumar, this is an incredible anti-climax which puts Narsingh's Olympic participation under cloud.

It won't get a lot of attention from the international media as one Indian wrestler failing a dope test is nothing when compared to the entire Russian contingent that was banned.

But this is nothing new for India.

Ever since the NADA came into effect in 2009, over 500 Indian athletes have been tested positive for banned substances. Kabaddi, bodybuilding, powerlifting, wrestling and boxing lead the charts for most Indian athletes who have failed dope tests.

According to a World Anti-Doping Agency report in 2014, India ranks third in the world in doping violations.

Here are India's top offenders:

1) Indian sprinter Ashwini Akkunji was tested positive for anabolic steroids in 2011. She was banned for two years.

She made made a comeback in 2014 by setting the record in the National Inter-State Athletics Championship.

2) Runner Mandeep Kaur was also tested positive for anabolic steroids in 2011 and banned for two years.

She later made a comeback in 2014 when won gold at the Asian Games in 4X400 metre relay.

3) Sailaja Pujari won bronze at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in weightlifting. She was tested positive for banned substances in 2003 and 2006.

She was banned for life in 2010.

4) Pratima Kumari was tested positive for banned substances a day after Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won the silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. She was suspended for two years.
