Planning a drive on Purvanchal Expressway? 5 things you should keep in mind

The recently inaugurated 341-kilometre Purvanchal Expressway lacks basic facilities like public toilets, restaurants. Keep these 5 things in mind before your journey on the expressway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 341-kilometre Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. The six-lane expressway connects Chand Saray village, Lucknow, with Haydaria village in Ghazipur district. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority started the construction on October 10, 2018. This expressway can help commuters drive from Lucknow to Bihar in just four hours. It is not only to make travelling easy, but also boost economic development in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh.

The Purvanchal Expressway is ready to use for travellers after the inauguration ceremony with no toll fee. Initially, you may struggle with finding basic facilities like food, restrooms and more as they are still under construction. Regardless, if you are keen on a long drive, here are a few things you should keep in mind to avoid some unpleasant experiences.

1. Pack enough food

You won’t find restaurants on the Purvanchal Expressway. From your favourite snacks to filling fruits, pack a variety of food items to beat hunger pangs on the go. Do not miss water for hydration.

2. Fill up the petrol tank

Right now, there are no petrol pumps on the 341-kilometre expressway. You need to have enough fuel to reach the destination. Also, check your vehicle properly to avoid mishaps. There is no mechanical support on the way.

3. Be prepared for the lack of restrooms

You need to be mentally prepared for this not-so-comfortable situation. Bring your own urination device or just avoid drinking too much of fluids.

4. Do not eat heavy, oily meals before the journey

A heavy meal can make you lethargic and sleepy, and bring digestive issues along. So, before the long drive opt for light, healthy meals to stay energetic on the go.

5. Download your favourite tunes

A long ride on the expressway without music seems boring, right? So, keep your playlist ready and sing along.

Fret not. The situation will not be the same in the future. Two rest areas are being built on the expressway, which will provide you with all the facilities including petrol pumps, garages, restaurants, public toilets, and more. Till then, if you can't control the urge to drive on the brand-new expressway, prepare well.
