DailyOh! Who built Hanuman Garhi, to where Sushant Singh Rajput case probe has reached

Narendra Modi will offer prayers at Hanuman Garhi before laying the foundation for Ram Mandir.

Today is important not just because yesterday is gone and tomorrow is never promised but because tomorrow the bhumipujan for Ram Temple in Ayodhya has been promised. So why is today important? Because the authorities in Ayodhya have to today ensure that everything goes as per plan tomorrow. The plan is to keep the arriving dignitaries safe from enemies – known and unknown, visible and invisible. The unknown and invisible is the virus on the prowl.

We will take you to Ayodhya later because we want to first take you to Bihar, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has demanded a CBI probe in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party leader Chirag Paswan have meanwhile demanded credit for pushing the case to CBI. Kumar, on his part, has credited Sushant’s family for the move. The family through family lawyer Vikas Singh told Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey that a CBI probe is needed in the case. Pandey reportedly told Nitish Kumar the same and so Kumar made the recommendation.

But Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde has said Bihar has no jurisdiction recommending a CBI probe. We do not know what changed between Rhea asking Union Home Minister Amit Shah for a CBI investigation and Maneshinde asking Bihar Police, “Who are you to ask for a CBI probe or any probe at all?”

But talking of Amit Shah reminds us what Marathi daily Saamana has written about him today. “[Ashok] Gehlot has no reason to be happy that Amit Shah is in isolation as the BJP leader performs political surgeries from wherever he is.” Saamana is Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece and Shiv Sena is Congress's ally in Maharashtra. You can consider this a friendly advice from Sena to Congress. The Congress on its part has said it is ready to hold talks with its Rajasthan rebels, who are camping in Haryana, if they leave the BJP’s “suraksha chakra (protection)”. Whose suraksha chakra should they then seek?

Lord Ram’s. That is not our suggestion to them. That is the belief Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi holds. After Congress leaders dithered over what stand to take on the bhumipujan, Priyanka has said Ram is with everyone and Ram Mandir bhumipujan will celebrate national unity.

They can use the occasion to pray for unity within the party, that is, if they believe in praying. But why do people do bhumipujan when they want to build something on the bhumi? For Bhudevi’s (Mother Earth) blessings.

Bhumipujan, for which the UP administration is moving heaven and earth, is our Word Of The Day. Bhumipujan comes from Sanskrit words bhu (land) and pujan (worship). In English, it is called foundation laying or groundbreaking ceremony. Many say the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is itself a groundbreaking event.

When Modi reaches Ayodhya tomorrow, he would first head to Hanuman Garhi, the temple where Lord Hanuman sits in the lap of his mother Anjani. Lord Ganesh’s blessings in Hinduism are sought before beginning most auspicious things. But when you begin anything related to Lord Ram, you got to have the blessings of Hanuman. It is believed Hanuman Garhi was built by Muslim ruler Shuja-ud-Daula, the third ruler of Awadh.

Before Hanuman Garhi was built, an idol of Lord Hanuman was kept under a tree on the spot where the temple now stands and prayers were offered. Legend has it that one Baba Abhayram saved the life of Shuja-ud-Daula’s son and the father felt indebted. Shuja-ud-Daula asked Baba Abhayram several times as to how he could repay the debt. One fine day, Baba Abhayram presented the request that a Hanuman temple be built where the idol was being prayed to. And so it happened.

In his book, Anatomy of a Confrontation: Ayodhya and the Rise of Communal Politics in India, historian Sarvepalli Gopal says that the 1855 confrontation in Ayodhya was actually for Hanuman Garhi and not Ram temple at the Babri Masjid-Janmasthan site.

According to Gopal, Ayodhya was witness to a major Hindu-Muslim conflict when Sunni cleric Shah Ghulam Hussain claimed that the temple of Hanuman Garhi was built by destroying a mosque. He goes on to say that it was Wajid Ali Shah who saved the temple.

How far do we go into the past to know that knowing the past serves no purpose? A song has the answer!

Song and dance done, let’s talk sports. You know by now that Indian Premier League (2020) is being held in UAE and you also know that the title sponsor for IPL series is Vivo. Well, not anymore. The Chinese phone manufacturer has lost out on this year’s sponsorship. This year, IPL will have a new sponsor. Vivo will, however, be back in 2021 and continue till 2023.

If you are wondering how to find out whether what you know about this or that is the right thing or the wrong one, WhatsApp could be your answer. Having become synonymous with fake news, WhatsApp has introduced a ‘Search the Web’ feature to help verify forwarded messages.

Searching the web has its own problems because when you search, you find more than one version of ‘truth’ and many versions of lies. So whether the feature makes your life easier or not depends on who but you.

West Bengal government, meanwhile, has made things a little complicated, especially if remembering dates is not your forte. No flights will land and take off from West Bengal on August 5, 8, 20, 21, 27, 28 and 31, 2020.

We suspect this will lead to many people missing their flights and flight operators booking people on wrong flights.

Talking of flights, if you were planning to buy the retired MiG-23 aircraft priced on the OLX website at Rs 9.99 crore, use your money to buy something else because OLX has taken down the ad (because it was fake). But you can buy/sell your TV, fridge, cooker, tawa, things needed and things not needed on the website.

If shopping is not your therapy, we bet music is. What’s the bet? Nothing because betting is illegal.

But talking of music, today happens to be the birthday of Kishore Kumar. And here’s a therapeutic song from his many many greats.

We will leave you with Jhoom Jhoom Jhumroo for today.

Be back tomorrow because tomorrow may not be promised, but we promise to be back tomorrow.
