DailyOh! Was Rhea’s brother Showik supplying drugs to Sushant, to Sanjay Dutt’s trip

WhatsApp chats reveal Showik Chakraborty introduced drug dealers to Sushant Singh Rajput’s aide Samuel Miranda.

How can an hour end just within 0.5 hours? That is the question which has riled the Opposition. The one question no one is asking: how can ‘zero hour’ even begin, forget about when it ends. They are probably not asking the crucial question because the very crucial ‘Question Hour’ has been done away with. Parliament sessions of both Houses of Parliament will commence on September 14 and end on October 1. Because the session is short, Question Hour won’t be allowed and Zero Hour, which is the time allotted to House member to raise matters of urgency, will be limited to 30 minutes.

To make up for the short session, both Houses would function on Saturday and Sunday. Members can, of course, bunk. Or they can follow the tradition of going to the House, disrupting proceedings, getting an adjournment and then going home.

Congress PM in Lok Sabha Shashi Tharoor has said the move turns Parliament into a notice board. Expect more fireworks as the session approaches and then some more when the session actually starts.

To diffuse fireworks at the border, India is talking to China even as the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has asked forces to tighten vigilance along borders with China, Nepal and Bhutan. China reportedly made fresh bids to enter Indian territory towards the fag end of August and started a fresh round of tensions.

In retaliatory fire, India has banned 118 Chinese apps, including PUBG and PUBG Mobile today. The list of banned apps includes Apus Launcher Pro and VPN for TikTok apps that people used to circumvent the ban on TikTok after it was banned. Will China learn any lesson? We can't say. But millions of children in Wuhan are back to schools learning their lessons, eight months after the region emerged as the coronavirus epicentre.

From China, let’s take you to Cambodia where Kaing Guek Eav has died at 77. Eav, also called Duch, by his own admission, had overseen the execution of 16,000 Cambodians between 1975 and 1979 as Khmer Rouge’s chief jailer. Imagine that.

The communist Khmer Rouge regime that ruled Cambodia from 1975-79 was guilty of causing the deaths of about 17,00,000 of their countrymen from executions, starvation and lack of medical care due to its radical policies.

Duch’s body would be examined to ascertain what killed him but what he killed was humanity. This is no rhetoric, but Duch was actually serving a life term in jail, for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

What killed Sushant Singh Rajput is still a matter of investigation and tension could also be mounting for Rhea Chakraborty and her family in the case.

Sources in the CBI have revealed, with no evidence of murder at hand, that they are looking at the death as a suicide. Case closed? No. Because they are opening the abetment to suicide angle for probe. The other angle that is under probe is that of drug consumption. If there is consumption, there has to be a supply. If there is a supply, there has to be a supplier. Turns out there were suppliers.

Rhea’s brother Showik Chakraborty reportedly introduced Sushant’s aide Samuel Miranda to two alleged drug suppliers, Basit Parihar and Zaid Vilatra. Both Parihar and Vilatra have been arrested. What led the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to the two are Showik’s WhatsApp chats with the men. When this case is over, investigating agencies will have a lot to thank WhatsApp for.

Most of this proof has come to fore from dump data, which is data that has been ‘dumped’ from a device. NCB reportedly went through this dump data by entering key words like ganja and charas and found chats around the banned drugs.

Investigators will investigate how drugs reached whoever they reached after being supplied by whoever the supplier was, but we want to now track who supplied the word drug to the English language. Turns out, the French.

Drug, the Word of The Day, comes from Old French drogue, which means ‘dry barrels’, referring to medicinal plants preserved as dry matter in barrels.

So a drug is a chemical given to people in order to treat or prevent an illness or disease. Drugs are also chemicals that some people take because of their pleasant effects, but they are usually illegal. Legal drugs save your life. Illegal ones can claim it - slowly. Even legal drugs in high doses can claim your life - quickly.

Drug trade is a highly lucrative one. It was this lure which moved Farooq Batata away from selling batatas to selling drugs. Batata is believed to be among Bollywood’s biggest drug suppliers.

Kangana Ranaut believes, and when she believes, she wants the world to believe it, that 90 per cent of people in Bollywood consume drugs. She has dared Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and others to take a drug test. Why? To bust the 'rumour' that 90 per cent of Bollywood takes drugs. Ranaut has tagged the Prime Minister's Office in the tweet where she made the demand for this rumour-busting tweet.

We don't know about these men but one of the biggest known consumers of drugs in Bollywood has been Sanju Baba. We're not saying it; he's said (and showed) it.

Once Sanjay Dutt consumed LSD, also known as acid, and went to meet his father to discuss the movie Rocky (1981). Not like he wanted to go to Dutt Sr after consuming it. Sanjay Dutt had consumed it thinking he had called it a day, waiting for the LSD to kick in. In the middle of this wait, he got a call from his father’s office saying Sunil Dutt wanted to meet him.

Sanjay went and the drug kicked in. As Sunil Dutt began talking, all Sanjay could hear was “waannrr . . . einn”, “aannoonn . . . aann” kind of gibberish. Sunil Dutt thought Sanjay wasn’t interested in listening. Sanjay Dutt by now was hallucinating. He saw a wig coming out of Sunil Dutt’s head and the wig caught fire. The son now wanted to protect his father from the fire. But one part of him knew he was high. When you are high, you lose control. Or let’s say the chemicals take control of you.

Sanjay began to see his father melt like wax. He jumped to save his father saying, “Dad, dad, don’t die on me. Don’t melt.” A baffled Sunil Dutt, who didn’t know what was going on, said, “Ki hoya yaar mere puttar nu?”

In an interview, Dutt revealed how he would sleep on the table and sometimes find his head immersed in the food bowl with his father watching him.

Sanjay Dutt fought his addiction. He is now fighting cancer.

To fight coronavirus, PM Cares Fund received Rs 3,076 crore in just five days from both India and abroad. The amount has been revealed in an audit report published on the PM Cares Fund website saying the amount was received till March 31. Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram has now asked the government to make public the name of the donors. Not everybody who does charity wants to make it public. Some believe in neki kar darya mai daal. So should transparency also go into the darya? Trick question.

But there is a trickier question. How is Pakistan fighting corona? The country has reported a dip in cases with deaths in single digits. This despite the country having a dismal record in containing infectious diseases like polio, TB and hepatitis. Pakistan has recorded only about 3,00,000 infections so far and 6,300 deaths.

Given that Pakistan doesn’t have a healthy health infrastructure, it is intriguing how the country managed to do the undoable.

On the global index, India stands at Number 3 in terms of coronavirus cases. The country is unlocking nevertheless because the economy needs to be revived. In Delhi, Metro trains will start chugging again from September 7 as Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have agreed to agree on something – opening the Delhi Metro.

To ride the Metro, you may have to wait till Monday, but to watch the trailer of Daniel Craig’s No Time To Die, you only have to wait till tomorrow. Bond fans may not have marne ki bhi fursat, but they will make time to watch the trailer tomorrow and the full movie in November. For now, all we can offer is the teaser.

That is all the time we have for today.

Be back tomorrow.
