"Cricket is our religion and Sachin is our god."

A lot of Indian males tend to echo this sentiment and present Sachin as a deity who can do no wrong.

But what about when he does do wrong? Do we turn a blind eye and look the other way?

An Economic Times report states that Tendulkar sought help from the defence ministry to rescue a resort he likes to go to in Landour, Mussoorie. The resort is partly owned by Sachin's business partner Sanjay Narang and has breached the 50-foot, no-construction zone next to the Institute of Technology Management.

That institute is a sensitive building for the Defence Research and Development Organisation, which is the most important R&D organisation of the country and helps in developing weapons so India can be self-reliant and properly defend herself.

Sachin Tendulkar had a face-to-face with defence minister Manohhar Parrikar to lobby for his friend's resort.

Are the interests of Sachin Tendulkar above National Security? Isn't this a blatant abuse of his Rajya Sabha ticket or his Bharata Ratna?

Remember the time he lobbied for an exemption from the import duty imposed on the Ferrari Formula One legend Michael Schumacher gifted him? Sachin lobbied hard for it for exemption.

Fiat India eventually paid the Rs 1.13 crore tax and later Sachin sold the Ferrari.

In India we tend to turn a blind eye towards our 'Gods', but Social Media allows people to express their feelings from a safe vantage point.

Here is how Twitter and Reddit reacted to the news, and wondered why Sachin Tendulkar is beyond public criticism:
