[Watch] How about a Make In India push for, er, sex toys?

In the land of Great Grand Masti, bananas and ice-cream sticks have long served a much-needed but covertly executed purpose. They have been the proverbial sex toys, because sex toys that call and sell themselves as sex toys are not Indian culture.

Ancient India might have had made love to stone and carved out the sexiest possible bodies, but toying with sex in a frank, playful manner had been a definite no-no.

So while "sex toys in India" will yield you a decent result on Google, the very fact that it is a mere online presence, without a real world equivalent in the biggest, brightest and dirtiest cities of the country, is telling.

But a bunch of twentysomethings are about to address the issue head on.

With the intention to start off with a "responsible adult comedy franchise in Indian entertainment", a big bad void in a universe populated with gawdy tear-jerkers, the "Jerk Off" series is here, with Dil Deo, their first episode.

As Amal Roy of the group tells in an email to DailyO, "Most of what's going around in the name of adult comedy in India is chauvinist irresponsible content that takes advantage of the gender stereotypes. Our attempt will be to bring to light the ingrained repression in our society through humorous short videos."

Dil Deo handles two patchy, haphazard and overlapping taboos: discussing sex in India and the near absence of sex toys.

"Sex toys are a luxury that has remained out of the Indian woman’s reach since forever. Whether it’s just a case of it being out of reach or of submissive sexual identities, sex continues to be a taboo topic in this great culture," Roy says.

Given that our shuddh desi culture is nearing a complete wipe out of pleasure even as incidences of sexual violence see an unprecedented rise, talking of sex toys seems like a preposterous idea. We can make light combat aircraft to tackle hardboiled foes, but when it comes to loving our friends and pleasuring our mobile-savvy, smartphone wielding selves, we are chicken!

"A dildo still is a topic that even some of our Gen Y couples would shy away from and sex has remained a topic to be hush-hush about for most of our lives," the makers of Jerk Off series say.

"We felt a shortfilm series was the easiest way for us to get people to listen to what we want to point out," Roy adds.

So brace for some tongue-in-cheek humour, and get adulterated. And leave that typical Indian male mentality where it rightly belongs - the trash bin.
