Bengaluru Metro Inaugurates Much-Awaited Purple Line

The Purple Line of Bengaluru Metro, also known as the Whitefield-Challaghatta Metro corridor, officially opened to the public today, bringing relief to travellers in the city.

The newly opened sections include a 2.1-km stretch from Baiyappanahalli to KR Pura and a 2.05-km stretch from Kengeri to Challaghatta, both forming part of the Purple Line.

The complete Purple Line will span a total of 42.85 km, connecting Whitefield in the east to Challaghatta in the west.

With this expansion, Bangalore Metro becomes the second-largest metro system in India after the Delhi Metro.

Commuters had long awaited the opening of these metro services, and there were online campaigns advocating for their launch.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced that services on the Purple Line would commence at 5 AM today, from all terminal stations.

The last train departing from Whitefield (Kadugodi) will be at 10.45 pm, while from other terminal stations, it will be at 11.05 pm.

Traveling from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta on the Purple Line will take approximately 82 minutes, covering a total of 37 metro stations.

The operational headway during morning peak hours on the East-West Corridor will vary, ranging from 3 minutes to 10 minutes between different stations.

The fare for a metro journey spanning the entire Purple Line from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta is ₹57.
