Japanese skincare is known for its emphasis on simplicity & gentle products. While there isn't a single "one-size-fits-all" routine, here's a 10-step Japanese skincare routine that you can customise to suit your skin type and concerns.

Start with an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup and sunscreen. Massage it onto dry skin, then rinse with warm water.

Follow up with a gentle water-based cleanser to remove any remaining impurities. This prepares your skin for the next steps.

Use a mild exfoliant with ingredients like rice bran or enzymes. Avoid harsh physical scrubs that can damage the skin. Do it 1-2 times a week.

Toner is the first step after cleaning your face. Apply a hydrating and pH-balancing toner to replenish moisture and prepare your skin to absorb the following products.

Use a hydrating lotion or essence that contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid to deeply moisturise your skin.

Apply a serum or ampoule with targeted ingredients like Vitamin C, niacinamide, or peptides to address specific concerns (eg., brightening, anti-ageing).

Apply a hydrating or treatment sheet mask to boost moisture and address specific skin issues. Apply it 1-2 times a week.

Gently pat on an eye cream to hydrate and address concerns like puffiness and dark circles.

And finish up with the final step -- Use a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturiser to lock in all the previous layers of hydration.

In the morning, finish off with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to protect your skin from UV damage.
