The New Capital Of Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced that Visakhapatnam, or Vizag, will be the new capital of the state.

It is the second-largest city on the east coast of India after Chennai, and the fourth-largest in South India.

Vizag's history dates back to the 6th century BC, when it was considered part of the Kalinga kingdom.

Vizag was an ancient port city but it is now also known as one of the most popular tourist destinations in India.

3rd largest port

Visakhapatnam port is India's third largest state-owned port by volume of cargo handled, and the largest on the eastern coast.

Industrial hub

Other than being a port city, Vizag is known for its industries and is the ninth-largest contributor to India's GDP as of 2016.

3-capital plan

Andhra had first chosen Amravati and then CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wanted 3 capitals, but finally, he has settled for Visakhapatnam.

Earlier, there was a master plan for developing Amaravati City, covering 217 sq km, by Foster + Partners.

shifting base

CM Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that he will also be shifting to Visakhapatnam.
