Mr Om Puri, you do not deserve to be forgiven

Can Om Puri dare ask a bitterly-divorced couple to go chill at a Coldplay concert in town? Let's look closer. Would the leading ladies of his once-upon-a-time-romantic life, his former wife Nandita Puri and his first wife Seema Kapoor, walk the promenade on a breezy evening just after their catfight and high-voltage drama?

With due respect, "sleeping with the enemy" is not as easy as it sounds. And no, Bajrangi Bhaijaans are not real. Unless, Om Puri has started taking his own "reel" life a tad too seriously.

Some of us are yet to watch his Pakistani debut movie Actors in Law and although it is alright to revel over critical acclaim and accolades, it is not alright to undermine your own countrymen.

He may have played several Pakistani characters, including former president Zia-ul-Haq in Charlie Wilson's War and the iconic role of George Khan in East is East and West is West. But maybe, just maybe, he is still in the character, role-playing. That does make him an actor extraordinaire. Just as his recent comments on the Indian Army make him a jester extraordinaire.

How dare he suggest it is alright for two nations hurling abuse, pellets and god-forbid bombs on each other, to marry for the convenience of those who could be benefitting out of this alliance.

It does suit Bollywood and the entertainment industry to lure people with drop-dead gorgeous faces on screen and get the audience to go watch their movies.

Anything "Pakistan" sells in a country as emotionally driven as ours. Mr Clever Johar, we know Kapoor and Sons worked for you. And now, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Fawad Khan is your trump card because we Indian girls love difficult relationships and we will watch him steal our hearts and walk away to a country we would most likely not visit.

And, because spotting him on Juhu beaches or cycling on the Bandra roads like our very on bhai is never going to happen. We crave the unknown. Be honest, just as you are about irregular bowel movements and piles in your columns.

And, we promise Indian twitterati will not allow the infamous singer and Twitter enthusiast Abhijeet wage guerrilla warfare on you. He addressed Fawad as Mrs Karan Johar. This is in bad taste. Just as your support to the Pakistani colleagues.

People watch cricket matches with Pakistan with such enthusiasm that it puts all other sports to shame. And, just when we have defeated them, we celebrate like we threw the nuclear bomb and survived because they lacked the second strike capabilities.

And that, my friend is the only way to deter a first strike. So, there is a sort of sadistic pleasure in celebrating our victory against them.

Pakistan has an eye for pretty things. Kashmir for one. Sania Mirza for another. Zeenat Aman and also Reena Roy. The dalliances have always been looked upon by optimists as therapy for ailing nations. But, is it therapeutic at all?

And as for Mr Puri apologising for his fanatical remarks, no Mr Puri, you do not deserve to be forgiven or punished. It's best to just keep you out of sight and out of mind. Let's just ignore you.
