Why Baba Ramdev's Patanjali has my family's full trust

I had been using beauty products manufactured by multi-national companies (MNCs), but a year ago something changed my life forever. I switched over to Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali products.

A couple of years ago, I had been to a make-up artist’s place at Punjabi Bagh in New Delhi regarding a story I was working on. During our conversation, the predominance of MNC products in the field of beauty care came up for discussion. I made a passing reference to the lack of any brand which could compete with the MNCs.

But my interviewee disagreed and asked me to try Patanjali products, at least once. She said my opinion about Swadesi-made products would change forever.

I immediately scouted for a Patanjali store in my area. Shampoo was the first product of Patanjali that I bought. I was pleasantly surprised after using it. It gave me a different feeling of freshness. The hair was softer and the washroom was full of aroma.

Shampoo was the first product of Patanjali that I bought. I was pleasantly surprised after using it.

Until 10 years ago, I used to wash my hair with shikakai, anwla and reetha. It was a painful process. I would soak them in water a night before I had to wash my hair. After washing hair, my hands used to get black as also the bathroom tiles.

I quit. With no other alternative available, I started using the MNC-made shampoos again. But Patanjali ended that void. I use it now. It gives the same conditioning and aroma to my hair as the original herbs. My search for the best shampoo has ended.

Slowly and gradually I started trying other beauty products from Patanjali. Till date I have liked all of them. In fact, I have fallen in love with Patanjali brand. They are skin-friendly and contain natural ingredients. The skin absorbs them and, in the process, it becomes softer, smoother and glossier.

Even Patanjali’s detergent bars and powders used for washing utensils are different from all others which we have tried so far. Vim was the last one I had used. But on an experimental basis I bought Baba Ramdev’s detergent bar.

Though we have a help at home but I too, like any working woman, wash utensils whenever she is absent. Both my maid and I felt a clear difference. There was no itching or burning sensation after using Patanjali utensil detergent. It is a great relief for us.

So, Patanjali was growing on us. From our bedroom and washroom to the kitchen’s washbasin. But the most decisive shift was yet to take place.

A year ago, I went to a relative’s place for dinner. I noticed that she was a step ahead of me as Baba Ramdev had invaded her kitchen. She told me to use several Patanjali edible products, especially ghee and mustard oil.

Patanjali ghee and mustard oil are mind-blowing. Except for the home-made ghee, we had never had the taste or aroma of original ghee in any other brand.

Similarly, the pungent taste and smell of mustard was missing in all other brands except when we would get oil directly from the mills.

But Patanjali made our life better and easier. Its ghee and mustard oil are as original as the home-made and mill-crushed ones respectively.

I thought of trying out all other edible products from Baba Ramdev’s house. Now I am a regular customer of gram flour (besan), jaggery (gur) and several other products.

Earlier, we used to buy products from authorised Patanjali stores because they were not available elsewhere. Of late, they have made inroads into the provisional stores in our locality in Noida and even in malls. This has made our job easier.

But they fly off the shelf in no time. The moment the store owner brings fresh stocks, people lap them up. I have given a list of products I use to my apartment’s "best of price" store guy and told him to keep them aside for me.

Not just me, but my children also are in love with Patanjali products. My son loves munching choco pie. Recently, he saw Patanjali chocos and biscuits and insisted that I buy a packet for him. I did. And he says they taste better than the Lotte choco pie he had got addicted to. He now devours Patanjali choco pie.

My teenage daughter, who is as finicky as any other girl her age, would use only MNC brands such as L’Oreal, Nivea and Ponds. But now she, on her own, has shifted to Patanjali products. She used them once and now she is their ardent admirer.

Several other residents in our apartment building have started using Patanjali products such as Kesh Kanti Shikakai shampoo, face wash, apricot face scrub, Saundarya bathing soap, moisturiser cream, Dant Kanti toothpaste and coconut oil after they heard me singing paeans of Patanjali. They are also happy. I have recommended these products to my mother in Patna and relatives living in different parts of the country and abroad.

We have forgotten the MNC beauty products now. We do not miss them.

I just wish Baba Ramdev launches more edible products because this is where a lot of adulteration is taking place. After using his products, we have started trusting him. We know he cannot do anything wrong. While we will get to eat pure food, it will also be good for our country’s image. After all a swadeshi brand will beat the MNCs and demolish their monopoly in the Indian market.
