Five things we learnt from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil's teaser

The return of the love triangle

Ranbir Kapoor walks away leaving a crying Anushka Sharma... for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan!? That's not a spoiler but one of the assumptions to make after seeing the teaser of Karan Johar's sixth directorial venture, which sees him back in the intense romantic drama territory of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

Ranbir seems to be the loverboy who can't get Saba (Aishwarya) out of his head.

Looks like a Ranbir show

With 13 seconds devoted to just a close-up of Ranbir deeply crooning the title track, it's not a mystery as to who will get most screen time in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The film has Ranbir with beard and without it; he is walking, running, crying, laughing, hugging, caressing, and of course loving.

The actor desperately needs a hit, and Karan Johar is intent on giving one of Bollywood's most talented actors a platform to showcase his thespian range. Karan has named Ranbir's character Ayan, incidentally also the first name of Ranbir's bestie and the last filmmaker to give him a superhit, Ayan Mukerji. Remember 2013 and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani?

The lovey-dovey Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor

Everyone's talking about the "sizzling chemistry" between Ranbir and Aishwarya. That's largely because most of their scenes in the teaser have them gazing lovingly into each other's eyes followed by a peek of that one lovemaking scene which heats things up. But then may be Anushka Sharma has the last laugh and gets the man?

Music is key

It is Pritam's first collaboration with Karan Johar the director, and the composer's work appears to be an integral part of the film. The visuals unfold to the title track crooned by ballad boy Arijit Singh, with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Expect a lot of romantic songs in the coming months and at least one shaadi track.

The battle of romance versus action

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil won't have all the screens to itself during Diwali. It faces off against Ajay Devgn-directed drama Shivaay, an action spectacle unfolding in a snowy landscape.

Who will win the box office battle? Will it be people jumping off cliffs and tumbling cars or will it be Ranbir-Anushka-Aishwarya trying to figure out the funny thing called love.

We'll know on October 30 but right now we will give Karan Johar's film the edge because it's clear in its mission: to tug at the heartstrings non-stop.
