Why Shraddha Kapoor is not a baaghi in real life

Shraddha’s home adventures

There is a lot for Shraddha Kapoor to celebrate. Since she shifted gears with Aashiqui 2, the petite actress has been on a roll.

Her latest success Baaghi, opposite Tiger Shroff continues to rake in the moolah in its second week. And, she has bought herself a new home. Her new apartment is a stone's throw away from her family home she shares with her parents, Shivangi and Shakti Kapoor, and elder brother Siddhanth.

Shraddha plans to use the new space only for work and has no plans to move out of her parent’s home. This is not just because she loves living at home but also because she has tried living on her own in the past and it didn’t exactly work out.

Just before she started shooting for Aashiqui 2, the 27-year-old moved into an apartment she had spent almost two months doing up. "When I got the place, I didn’t realise that it was on a flight path. All night there would be planes flying over my head! I couldn’t sleep at all. I barely stayed in that apartment for five nights," the Baaghi girl shared recently.

Her parents, who weren’t very kicked at her move, had the last laugh when she returned home, with her pooch Shyloh in tow.

Nawaz’s fancy duds

Cannes is as much about films as it is about fashion. But, not so much for Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Until now, that is. Nawaz’s third trip to the prestigious film festival is going to be a departure sartorially from his previous Cannes appearances.

Four summers ago, when Nawaz first travelled to the Cannes Film Festival with Miss Lovely and Gangs of Wasseypur 1 and 2, the actor wore a suit stitched by his local tailor.

The story is that Nawaz and his team approached a few designers to dress him but all of them refused.

"They didn’t believe I was really going to Cannes. So, I went to a shop, bought the material myself and got it stitched from the tailor," Nawaz said after his return from Cannes.

When Nawaz returned to the Croisette with The Lunchbox, Bombay Talkies and Monsoon Shootout the following year, a host of designers approached to dress him. "I wore the same suit as the previous year. It was lucky the first time so I wore it again," he remembers with a laugh.

This year, Nawaz is going to be accompanied by Cannes veteran Anurag Kashyap and his Raman Raghav 2.0 co-star, Vicky Kaushal.

But the 41-year-old will not be packing his old suit for this trip. "Anurag’s office is organising some designer clothes," he told me recently.

On the final day of his four-day trip, the actor will be dressed in a bespoke Jas Arora (remember the model who danced with Malaika Arora Khan in the '90s "Gur Naal Ishq Mitha" video?) suit. Nawaz has come a long way from the riverbanks of Budhana.

Next is what?

It takes a lot of courage to press pause when you are at the top of the heap to try something new. This leggy actress packed her bags and moved West in a bid to spread her wings. She’s been stationed overseas, shooting her big international film but her heart is in Mumbai.

Even as she posts selfie after selfie all over her social media feed, the actress is hoping her home base doesn’t forget her. She’s been sending out multiple feelers to producers and director she has previously worked with and superstars she hasn’t worked with but no one seems to be biting.

Three tent-pole films have been announced in recent weeks and her name isn’t attached to any of them. Even if she is upset that one of her favourite directors has announced a film without her, she is not showing it. But the buzz is that she lobbied a lot to be cast in that film.

Only the film’s leading man, who the actress has worked with multiple times, refused point blank. As the end of her international shoot comes close, not having the next project lined up is understandably giving her sleepless nights.
