7 things we learn from the new Star Wars trailer

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be the first Star Wars movie in a decade. Not only that, it will be the first one to feature Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, and the seventh movie overall in the super successful franchise. It is, as you guessed it, a big deal. The film is just two months away and is slated to be released this Christmas.

Like it or not, the trailer (see below) tells us a great deal about the movie and even drops several hints. It also dispels a great deal of mystery circulating about Luke Skywalker, the protagonist of the original trilogy, considering the poster did not even feature him. Many are wondering what his role will be in the movie.

Luke isn't there in the trailer as well. But fans don't worry: Skywalker will most definitely be in the movie. Even in the first trailer you can hear Mark Hamill's signature voice (playing Luke Skywalker). Already, photos from the sets of the movie reveal that Skywalker will be robed and bearded. He will mostly resemble Ben Kenobi (played by the late Sir Alec Guinness in the first Star Wars movie). Suffice it to say, he will take a bit of a backseat as he will now be a Jedi master - a guiding force per se.

Kylo Ren is a Darth Vader wannabe: Kylo Ren is the name of the main bad guy in the movie. Yes, he is the same hooded guy with a helmet who resembles Darth Vader from the original trilogy. The trailer reveals that he's a powerful user of the dark side of the force and is skilled in lightsaber combat just like Vader. In the trailer, he says, "I'll finish what you started", and this happens as the screen pans to a destroyed helmet which looks similar to the one Darth Vader wore. The trailer also shows a vessel similar to the Death Star in the first and third Star Wars movies. He's said to be the leader of the army called the First Order, which seemingly is unleashing a reign of terror on the Galaxy.

The Jedi Order and the Empire are dead: Going by the trailers, including the new one, the new protagonists of the Force Awakens have been born in a world which doesn't understand the concept of the light side and dark side of the force. "It's true," Han Solo says. "All of it. The dark side. The Jedi. They're real." This would explain why Luke Skywalker is missing from the poster and the last trailer. It is possible that both Finn and Rey are trained by Skywalker in the ways of the Force.

Finn is a Stormtrooper turned Jedi: It is also quite clear that Finn was a Stormtrooper. He supposedly landed on the desert planet of Jakku and that's where he met Han Solo and Chewbacca. Even Daisy Riddley, who plays Rey, claims that. In the trailer, Finn says, "I was raised to do one thing, but I've got nothing to fight for." Han Solo is also seen being taking Finn to a temple which could be either the Jedi Temple at Coruscant or Yavin 4.

Rey is a scavenger: Firstly, it is quite evident that the movie doesn't start in the desert planet of Tatooine, but Jakku. Rey is seen scavenging inside the derelict star destroyer which we've seen before in the earlier trailers. A lot of the action in the trailers is based in Jakku.

Han and Leia are reunited: Earlier trailers showed only Han Solo and Chewbacca, but there's a moment where Han Solo and Princess Leia are embracing each other. It appears that they were separated and have been reunited.

First Order could be remnants of the Empire: As the army commanded by Kylo Ren mostly wear the uniform of the Stormtroopers it is signified that they are the remnants of the empire after the death of Darth Sidious and Darth Vader. Ren also has a master who isn't in the trailer but his name is Snoke played by Andy Serkis, who is known for his portrayal of Gollum in the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series.
