The two had been embroiled in a matrimonial dispute for the past few months. According to Nawaz Modi Singhania, she stated that she was physically assaulted by Gautam Singhania on his 58th birthday in September, resulting in her hospitalisation at the ICU of Sir HN Reliance Hospital due to broken bones in her lower back.
In her complaint filed with the Vartak Nagar police in Thane, Nawaz detailed Gautam Singhania's alleged misconduct towards her parents and siblings, besides accusing him of assaulting her at their residence two months prior, leading to her hospitalisation. Additionally, she expressed concern for the well-being of their two daughters, Niharika and Nisa.
Married in 1999, Nawaz Modi is actively involved as a director in at least 10 private and publicly listed companies within the family's business.
When sharing news of the separation, Gautam Singhania refrained from disclosing the reasons behind it. Instead, he mentioned, "As I reflect on the unfortunate developments in the recent past, there has been a lot of unsubstantiated rumour-mongering and gossip surrounding our lives, fanned by 'not-so-well-wishers.' I am parting ways with her while we continue to prioritise the well-being of our two precious diamonds, Niharika and Nisa."
He serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Raymond Group, recognised as the world's largest producer of suit fabric.

Currently residing at JK Gram in Thane, his residence is valued at around Rs 6,000 crore, marking it as the second most expensive home in India after Mukesh Ambani’s Antilia.
In 2015, Gautam Singhania was embroiled in a legal dispute with his father, Vijaypat Singhania, the founding figure of the Raymond Group. This feud led Vijaypat Singhania to vacate his ancestral property, residing thereafter in a rented property in South Mumbai’s Grand Paradi Society.
