Why the liberal mafia must end debate on Jallikattu

Rich and powerful. They see the Indian masses through the eyes of a British daroga and turn reformers of the Hindu society whenever they feel it's time to preach. They believe that cow slaughter and beef eating are essential for the agenda of human rights, and killing millions of animals is a matter of religious freedom. Their silence on the outrageous slaying of Shia clerics in Saudi Arabia is a secular duty, and having a Vishnu pic on a whiskey bottle or opposing the construction of the Ram temple is secular Jiyarat.

Above all, they are all fluent speakers of the English language. What other credentials do they need?

So how can these makers of the Delhi durbar tolerate Jallikattu? Everyone else has to be wrong and must be playing to the gallery for electoral benefits, while these great Indian liberal saints live to protect civilisation. The onerous responsibility of safeguarding everything that is right for the nation is on their shoulders. They must speak and offer their opinion on every subject and every decision of the government.

And they have to be right - always - and their righteousness is expressed through an absurd comparison of the Jallikattu with Sati. Sati, that was a despicable ritual propounded by the blind faithfuls of an absurd mindset. It was opposed by tall leaders like Raja Ram Mohun Roy and Vivekananda, and rightly banned under law.

Jallikattu is similar to horse racing. If that is cruelty, would you care to ban the Mahalaxmi racecourse? Why are you making Hindus guinea pigs for your reforms' laboratory? Beyond party lines, ideological differences, and social divisions, at a time when everyone is supporting Jallikattu, can they be labelled as cruel savages who have no any respect for human values and animals rights?

Are the Jallikattu supporters heartless slayers of all that is acceptable in the human society?

Tamil farmers treat the bull like their child - how can a father be cruel to his son?

It's so presumptuous. For all their sirens of animal rights, we see them blindly endorsing the slaughter of millions of animals simply because they fear a violent consequence if taken a different stand.

And Jallikattu is NOT about cruelty to the bull. The government has issued a notification ensuring all precautions be taken. Inacceptable practices will be prevented and district authorities have been told to permit Jallikattu only after ensuring compliance.

Jallikattu, held as part of Pongal, is about the rural masses, especially farmers and Dalits. It is the time for songs, special cuisine, donning traditional attire, rustic heroism and togetherness. It's a people's celebration, away from the chatter of arrogant preachers who place themselves on a high pedestal.

Coming from those who know nothing about folk festivals, except when they get brochures from international fests (the buzz word is "ethnic"), their debates are high on decibel and low on content. The Jallikattu controversy can simply be termed as another clumsy campaign by the hate brigade.
