Why I'll buy iPhone 6S Plus

As you'd probably know, Apple was upto something last evening. It announced a number of new products including what I call the "Jesus phone". Of course, I am talking about the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus.

Now, if you've followed the world of Android smartphones, which is overblown with pomp and jargon, you would probably not be impressed by the new iPhones. They look the same as those released last year, but as is the case with Apple's "S" models, the design has remained the same, but the internals has got a massive upgrade.

I've been an iPhone user for the last three years and at the same time, in my capacity as a technology journalist, have reviewed almost every second Android smartphone that has come out in the market.

On paper, the iPhone will not excite you. It never does, but always has a new meaningful feature that ends up being copied by the legion of Android smartphones.

Apple doesn't believe in adding a feature for the sake of making headlines. Instead, whenever it brings something new, it is infinitely better than that of any company. Often it takes a company many years to compete in the market, but Apple always ends up being ahead of the curve. And that's why I'll be buying the new iPhone 6S - the iPhone 6S Plus to be precise.

If this isn't enough, here are further reasons I will buy the iPhone 6S Plus:

1. The world has changed. After using legions of gargantuan Android smartphones, my trusted iPhone 6 has started to look small. Hence, in a bid to get the taste of the big screen experience, I'll invest in an iPhone 6S Plus.

2. In the rat race to look spectacular, most Android smartphone vendors foolishly, in my opinion, focus on the screen resolution. But truth be told, Apple sealed that argument the moment it launched the iPhone 4 in 2010 with 327-pixel-per-inch density. After that, manufacturers escalated it to full HD, 2K and even 4K as we saw recently with Sony's new Xperia. These are not meaningful improvements. The new 3D Touch technology on the iPhone 6S Plus seems like a game changer. It is a new type of pressure-sensitive display which will spawn new types of interface paradigms. It will change the way we interact with our iPhone. Depending on the type of pressure exerted on the screen, you may get a preview, a contexual menu or even jump to a specific feature of an app. It can also be used to multitask and app developers will certainly make use of this. Actually the iPhone 6S was rumoured to have this technology, but Chinese company Huawei beat Apple to this. However, you can expect Apple to nail it as far as this innovation is concerned and certainly it will have the support of app developers.

3. Apple iPhones have always been some of the best camera phones in the market. Given the new 12-megapixel sensor with 1.22um pixels, and optical image stabilisation, you can expect the iPhone 6 Plus to have the best camera of any flagship smartphone. It should be even better than Samsung's Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5.

4. If you want the fastest phone in the world, you would always opt for an iPhone. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are still wicked fast phones. Apple claims that the new A9 processor is 70 per cent faster in CPU tasks and 90 per cent faster in graphics than the processor in the iPhone 6. Also the iOS is a frugal operating system which has been designed to use very few resources and Apple's software and hardware are always developed in unison, which results in better user experience.

5. The battery life on the iPhone 6 is abysmal. However, the iPhone 6 Plus had good battery life and I'd expect the same for the iPhone 6S Plus. Apple has also added new battery saving features in iOS 9, which should improve things further.

6. I also have to travel abroad a lot as part of my profession. So I need a phone with global 4G connectivity. The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus support 23 LTE bands across the world, the most ever seen on a phone. It also supports new LTE technologies like LTE Advanced.

7. The fact that I've been an iPhone user for years makes my decision easier. As I've invested so much in apps for iOS, it just doesn't make sense to go for Android. Also I love features like Apple Music, which still aren't available on Android. An Android smartphone will need to be vastly superior than an iPhone to make me switch.

8. The screen and the body of the iPhone 6S is sturdier than the models last year. You can expect that there will be no "bend gate" controversies. Apple says that the screen has gone through a double ionisation process, which makes it the strongest screen around, which is good news. Apple also claims that the iPhones have aircraft grade aluminium in their construction, which has also resulted in the iPhone being slightly thicker than last year's models. Frankly, I also feel that this battle for the slimmest phone has gone out of control, and I'd not mind a phone with a bit of chunk. Calling the iPhone would be hyperbolic, but nonetheless I'll take the extra 0.2mm.
