Leaked photo of Samsung Galaxy S8 shows the tech giant is going for the kill

Samsung, a phone brand that had almost gone into extinction thanks to shoddy devices that burst into flames or exploded, may soon be back with a bang (a positive and strictly metaphorical one, hopefully). The end of March shall witness the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8, a device that will – for the sake of the company’s continued existence – will put an end to all the explosion business.

The South Korean tech giant has plans to launch the Samsung Galaxy S8 at Galaxy Unpacked 2017 on March 29. There have been innumerable rumours about the company’s new flagship device, including that of a 6.2 inch display with curved edges and a 12 megapixel Dual Pixel camera setup among other things.

The rumours still remain rumours, even though shrewd guesses have a knack for being on point. But for the time being, we finally know what the phone actually looks like. Tech journalist and serial tipster Evan Blass shared a photo of the press render of the Samsung Galaxy S8 on his Twitter account and you’ve got to admit, it does look pretty awesome.

In the render, one can clearly see that the phone has a dedicated physical button at the left side – which Samsung has said is for Bixby – their new AI assistant, quite similar to Apple’s Siri or Google Assistant.

Bixby has been developed by Viv Labs, a startup founded by the creators of Siri that Samsung bought last year. Although, as of yet, there is no word on just how good this assistant is likely to be. Samsung insiders have said that the assistant will integrate with third-party services and will also reportedly be able to control almost all native apps preinstalled on the S8.

The new leaked image also shows a longer and narrower display on the Samsung Galaxy S8, as compared to older devices, which, according to an NDTV report, points towards the company adopting an 18:9 aspect ratio, rather than the current industry standard of 16:9. The Samsung Galaxy S8’s rendered image also confirms that the smartphone will have dual curved edge display and no bezels on the sides. Also, there’s no home button.

The wait isn't much, but if any of the rumoured specifications, and the leaked render are to go by, the Galaxy S8 will be a powerhouse of a phone and may just be te ticket Samsung needs, to build back upon its past credibility.
