New Rs 2,000 notes won't end corruption

The world may be going to dogs, with racist world leaders and apathetic government regimes, but the universe does manage to cheer you up, with little things that can only make you believe, that if God exists, he or she has a stellar sense of humour.

Narendra Modi, in a rather surprising move, kicked “black money” in its alleged jewels by abolishing the denominations of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500. Instead, the citizens of India will now have a new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 currency note. This Anil-Kapoor-from-Nayak like move was made in an attempt to retrieve all the untaxed black money that exists with the corrupt in our country.

Now here comes the beautiful bit. In India, no matter how hard you try, the toxic love-hate relationship, citizens have with corruption is unbreakable. Try as you might, people will find newer ways to be corrupt and they have.

Less than a couple of days since the announcement happened; a Reddit user shared a thoroughly unsurprising new development: “I have been asked for a 15,000 Rs. bribe in new notes. What are my options?”

“I have to do registration of my property purchased last month in Bangalore. The property is purchased in all white. There is no black money involved. There is a home loan too. But during registration, builder has said that you have to bribe at sub-registrar's office. You won't get your registration done otherwise” said user chinvikul on Reddit.

“This was told to us couple of weeks back. After the latest development, I told him that it is difficult to arrange for that amount since there are long queues at banks now. I am trying to make every possible excuse to avoid paying the bribe, but he insists,” they added.

While most people on the thread suggested that a complaint should be filed to people ranging from the local CBI/ACB branch, to the police, most just genuinely concede to the fact that this in itself was an inevitability.

There is no way of verifying how accurate this is, given that anonymous accounts can post just about anything on Reddit. It is however, more than likely that this (even if not true at the moment) will become a thing within the next one week at the most.
