India trounced Sri Lanka by 9 wickets in Visakhapatnam on Sunday to win the three-match T20 series 2-1. Ravichandran Ashwin spun a web around the Sri Lankans, taking four wickets for a mere eight runs on a pitch that Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar felt had a lot to offer to the batsmen.
Ashwin was ably supported by all the Indian bowlers who skittled out the Lankans for a paltry 82. India then, on the back of strong performances by Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane with the bat, romped home with 37 balls to spare.
Ashwin's exploits brought him the "man of the match" and "man of the series" awards.
This T20 series win comes on the back of a 3-0 whitewash of Australia in its own backyard, and Dhoni's boys look to be poised well for making a real dash at the World T20 title in March-April.
