The 69th annual Met Gala was an affair full of weird fashion choices.
Often dubbed as the Oscars of the East Coast, the Met Gala – the official name is Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit - signals the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual show. This year the exhibition is “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between”.
While Roger Federer decided to sport a really nice suit that wasn’t all that nice when you saw it from behind (it had a giant sequin/crystal studded snake on the back), Priyanka Chopra decided to don something that could only be correctly categorised as the love child of a giant trench-coat and a dress.
Designed by Ralph Lauren, this trench-coat/gown comes with a massive train, and Priyanka Chopra did a rather fantastic job of carrying an outfit that looked so weird. And while she looked almost flawless, the dress/trench-coat’s train, that could easily provide shelter to a handful of children, should they decide to make a tent out of it, became a reason for people on the interwebs to go crazy.
Reiterating the fact that the dress could shelter several children, somebody accurately compared Chopra’s Met Gala look to Vincent Adultman from Netflix’s Bojack Horseman.

Of course, Chopra wasn’t the only one wearing an outfit that could fit a dozen.

And not everyone thought the dress was great. In fact, some were of the opinion that the entire look was nothing short of horrendous.

Chopra’s “sweeping” dress earned her quite a few Swachh Bharat Abhiyan jokes.

And it did remind a lot of people of the troubling times in their childhood, when parents forced them to buy really oversized clothes, because they were still growing. Ugh.
