[Shocking] 188 children fall sick after taking deworming tablets

As India observed National Deworming Day on February 10, more than 180 children across Bihar, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan fell sick after Albendazole - a deworming tablet - was administered to them under a government programme.

While more than 100 children took ill in Bihar's Nalanda alone, 58 from Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district were reported sick after they complained of nausea after taking the tablets.

In Chhattisgarh too several children were admitted to a state hospital for treatment after being administered the same medicine.

PTI reported doctors as saying that the nausea could have resulted from psychological fears and a reaction to the deworming procedure.

However, the authorities need to answer why so many children who consumed the same batch of the medicines fell sick.
