Oscar 'best film' gaffe was the best thing to happen on Twitter in a while

2017 is doing its best to outshine 2016 in snafus.

Of course it is near impossible to overshadow the ascension of Donald Trump, the end of the Oscars this year, however, was a good attempt.

Hollywood veteran Faye Dunaway made a booboo when she announced the wrong winner for best picture, awarding the trophy to La La Land when it actually was supposed to go to Moonlight. It was, without a doubt, one of the most shocking moments in Oscar history.

And just as Jordan Horowitz and Marc Platt, the producers of La La Land, were done delivering their speeches, a sudden flurry of activity on the stage pointed towards a plot twist.  Amidst the celebrations and cheers, Horowitz, taking everyone by shock, announced, “We lost, by the way”.

“Guys, guys, I’m sorry. No. There’s been a mistake. Moonlight, you guys won best picture. This is not a joke,” clarified Horowitz, while holding up the card that proved it.

Actor Warren Beatty, who later tried to explain what had happened, seems to have been handed the envelope for Best Actress, which went to La La Land’s Emma Stone.

For many, what happened at the Oscars was similar to Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe goof-up, which immediately set the online world on fire.

This is how Twitter responded to Oscars' biggest faux-pas:

It is just sad when an ardent supporter of Donald Trump and his crusade against the liberal media utters the words “fake news” and one cannot even refute it.

This plot-twist at the end of the Oscar’s certainly managed to get everyone’s funny running.

And it got people fantasising about the elections results in 2016. It is, but natural, to dream about Donald Trump’s victory being a wrong announcement.

There were also those who did not waste a single breath before patriotically blaming Russia for this conspiracy.

And of course, endless Steve Harvey jokes, that somehow never seem to get old.
