How Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone fared at Golden Globes

It was one of those rare cases where the nation genuinely wanted to know what Deeps and Piggy Chops would wear to the 74^th Golden Globes Awards held on January 8, Sunday in Beverly Hills. You see, it’s not everyday that two of India’s biggest superstars share the same red carpet to promote their Hollywood flicks.

Priyanka Chopra shone on the red carpet for Baywatch and Deepika Padukone flashed her dimpled smile for xXx: Return of Xander Cage. So far, so good. But what’s a woman without being sized up for her clothes, so we’re not going to deny the readers the satisfaction of judging as they sit at their computer desks and do some California dreaming.

Let’s start with the hottest ticket of international television. It appears as though Chopra took the invitation rather literally as she flaunted her own two globes in a golden, fitted Ralph Lauren gown. Of course, she looked sexy as hell in the sequins dress that was paired with a diamond drop necklace lying suggestively on her neck (thank god it didn’t get stolen – I’m always nervous for people’s diamonds after Kim K’s robbery in Paris).

A deep purple lipstick covered her bee-stung pout, her hair looked chic with its slightly messy middle-parting and shoulder length. She even hob-nobbed with the gorgeous Sofia Vergara on the red carpet, sharing quite a few laughs (I was afraid one of them would bite the other’s head off by mistake. But that’s just my imagination). All in all, it seemed to be a great evening for the Quantico starrer and India was proud.

As for the other superstar who is waiting in the wings to win Hollywood hearts, Deepika Padukone was the happiest, most glamourous desi diva there – but only waist up. She also wore a cheery yellow one-shoulder Ralph Lauren gown (coincidence?) that looked stunning and statuesque till her mid-riff, but the gown took a personality of its own as it flared open around the legs. For those who had issues with the creases, you need to chill out – that’s not something she could have controlled, and it could happen to the best/worst of us.

However, it’s the fit that seemed to be a bit off. Maybe Deeps is confident enough of her hourglass body in the movie, but she could have shown at least some figure in the dress. It’s like wearing a sari with a sexy fishtail drape, or leaving it loose like a lehenga. I’m sure the desi readers will understand the comparison.

That being said, her face looked lovely with the glamourous side-parted hair and their cascading waves. The eye make-up was on-point and her pearl drop earrings lent the right amount of style. While the lipstick looked perfect in her Instagram photo, it paled out slightly in real life and could have been a bit brighter.

Now that both the women have been cut to size, let’s feel good that Bollywood stars are putting India on the international map. Because if the rumours are to be believed (and the teaser for Koffee With Karan), Sonam Kapoor will be making her Hollywood debut soon too, and THAT will be an altogether different story.
