Rajasthan HC judge saying peacocks don't have sex is proof cow politics is highly scientific

Cow politics in India is taking more and more bizarre turns with each passing day. The latest in "what-the-f**k" is a high court judge saying that peacock is the national bird because it is "celibate". Yes, you heard it right.

Justice Mahesh Chandra Sharma of Rajasthan High Court said this while trying to justify why the cow deserves national animal status. On May 31, he recommended life imprisonment for cow slaughter. Justice Sharma also urged the Centre to declare cow as India's national animal.

In an interview to CNN-News18, the judge said, “The peacock is a lifelong brahmachari (celibate). He never has sex with the peahen. The peahen pecks on the tears of the peacock to get pregnant. That’s how she gives birth to a peacock or a peahen. This is why Lord Krishna also wears the peacock feather. This is why the peacock feather is used by sadhus.”

Take that, science! This, of course, is not the first time an influential public figure in Rajasthan has said something this scientifically inaccurate and outright asinine.

In January this year, Rajasthan education minister Vasudev Devnani proudly proclaimed, defying all boundaries of human knowledge about mammals, that the holy cow is the only animal that inhales as well as exhales oxygen.

Speaking at the Hingonia Goshala during an event organised by Akshay Patra foundation on January 14, the minister said, "Gai ekmatra prani hai jo oxygen grahan karta hai, aur oxygen hi chhodta hai (The cow is the only animal that takes in oxygen and also releases oxygen).”

But that’s not all the soon-to-retire-judge said. The not-a-frequent viewer of National Geographic (there’s no other explanation) also said that when Lord Krishna came to earth, he brought down a cow with him to Vrindavan. And he knew that the cow could suffice for doctors and surgeons because cow’s milk is medicinal in nature, and cures all kinds of ailments (except insanity).

"It increases religiousness and piousness. This is what makes cow’s milk so important".

Clearly, all doctors are frauds and we could have all been cured of malaria, dengue, smallpox, Ebola and AIDS with nothing more than cow’s milk, fed to us by a cow doctor.

Here’s the full text of the bizarre things that the judge said. You be the judge of his sanity:

"I have specifically said in my order ki gai ko rashtriya pashu ghoshit kiya jaana chahiye. Jaise Nepal ke andar kiya gaya hai, theek usi prakaar hamare yahaan bhi kiya jaana chahiye, kyonki gai se hum sab logon ki dhaarmic aastha judi hui hai. Gai ka use karna chahiye. Bas misuse nahi hona chahiye, yeh bhi hum ne kaha (that cow should be declared the national animal of India. Just like it has been done in Nepal, India should follow the same, because cows are an integral part of our religious faith. Cows should be used, not misused).

It is not the idea. Aapko bataien, yeh idea kehna baahar ki baatein hain. Bhagwan Krishna jab is dharti par aayeein, toh unhone aane se pehle Vrindavan mein gai ko utara, Govardhan mein gai ko utara. Aur unko pata tha ki hamara jo vaidya hoga, doctor hoga, surgeon hoga, woh gai hi hogi. Gai ke doodh se sab prakaar ki bimaariyan samaapt hoti hain. Saatvik pravarti badhti hai, dharmikta badhti hai. Yeh gai ke doodh ki mahatva baat hai. Maine mere judgment mein gai ke baare mein Rig Ved, Sam Ved, Yajur Ved, sab ke bare mein... Ramayan, Gita, Mahabharat mein likhte hue gai ke baare mein likha hai ki gai kyun aadmi ke liye mahatvapurna hai. Gai marne ke baad bhi kaam aati hai. Gai ka gobar bhi kaam aata hai. Gai ka mutra bhi kaam aata hai. Gai ka doodh bhi kaam aata hai. Gai ke haddiyan bhi kaam aati hain. Aur tantrik prayog ke liye bhi gai kaam mein liya jaata hai (When Lord Krishna came to earth, he first brought down a cow with him to Vrindavan. And he knew that the cow could suffice for doctors and surgeons. Cow’s milk is medicinal in nature, and cures all diseases. It increases religiousness and piousness. This is what makes cow’s milk important. I have referred to the Rig Veda, the Sam Veda and the Yajur Veda in my judgment. I have also referred to the Ramayana, the Gita and the Mahabharata, in my judgment. Cow is important to man. Cow is useful to man even in death. Cow’s dung, cow’s urine, cow’s milk and cow’s bones - all of them are useful to man. A cow comes in use even for tantric experiments).

I have suggested to the government. Kyun? Kyunki woh suggestions isliye the ki woh mere aatma ki aawaz thi. Unko directions is liye nahi diye jaa sakte the kyunki Union of India us mein party nahi thi. Is liye suggestion hamare aatma ke aawaz se di hain. Government zaroor is par kaam karegi. Saakaratmak kaam karegi. Deshhith mein kaam hai. Sab praniyon ke hith mein kaam hai (Why? Because these suggestions have come from within my soul. This judgment is in favour of the country and in favour of all creatures. I trust the government to work on this).

The other things I have said in my judgment, I have directed to the director-general of the police and the anti-corruption department to monitor the Hingonia Gaushala. To go there once in three months, prepare the report and submit the report with the court, so that they can stop the corruption.

I personally visited the Hingonia Gaushala in the presence of collector, JDC and COO of Nagar Nigam. I found they did something and will do something for cows.

It is not related to secular or Hindu. Why have we selected the peacock as the national bird? Peacock ke bhi quality hain. Woh bhi mai bata deta hoon aap ko. Jo mor hai, yeh aajeevan brahmachari hai. Yeh kabhi bhi morni ke saath sex nahi karta. Iske jo aansu aate hain, morni us se chubh kar garbhwati ho jaati hai, aur mor ya morni ko janam deti hai. Mor ka pankh bhi Bhagwan Krishna ne isi liye lagaya. Sadhu santo aur mandiro mein isi liye mor ko kaam mein liya jaata hai, kyunki woh brahmachari hai. Theek usi prakaar gai mein bhi itne gun hai, ki gai ko toh national pashu ghoshit kiya jaana chahiye (The peacock is a lifelong celibate. He never has sex with the peahen. The peahen pecks on the tears of the peacock to get pregnant. That’s how she gives birth to a peacock or a peahen. This is why Lord Krishna also wears the peacock feather. This is why the peacock feather is used by saints).

Gujarat and Chhattisgarh already have life imprisonment for killing cows. My judgment is applicable in Rajasthan. But it can be adopted by other states. And I hope they do so. Because it is religious. It is the sound of soul. The sound of every person living in India."
