Cricketer, fighter, cancer survivor: Happy birthday Yuvi

Yuvraj Singh - one of India's most entertaining players in recent times, the mercurial southpaw, the six-hitter, the one who hit cancer out of the park - turned 34 on Saturday, December 11.

A temperemental and aggressive character, the Chandigarh lad was always known to wear his heart on his sleeve.

Yuvraj celebrated his birthday in advance along with the Ambanis on Friday.

The left-handed batsman is known to be a fighter, both on and off the field. He was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in his left lung in 2011. Following this, the cricketer underwent chemotherapy treatment in the USA. He was discharged from the hospital after completing the therapy in March 2012 and returned to India in April.

Fans, well-wishers, friends, Bollywood celebrities and the like took to Twitter to wish the cricketer on his birthday.

In the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, Yuvraj was the Man of the Tournament and one of the top performers at the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, both of which India won.

Yuvraj or "Yuvi"as he is referred to by friends and fans alike is most famously remembered for his performance in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup where, in one match, he smashed six sixes of a single over by England pacer Stuart Broad. The feat was previously achieved by only three cricketers - Garfield Sobers, Ravi Shastri and Herschelle Gibbs - in any form of senior cricket.
