What the first episode of Bigg Boss 9 tells us

Bigg Boss works on a tried and tested formula that is predictable to say the least. Throw in a couple of characters together in a garish-looking house and wait for their personalities to run the show. The makers have taken a cue from The Addam’s Family perhaps.

The first day in any Bigg Boss season has been the day for the contestants to analyse each other’s behaviours while marking their territories strategically. Here, the viewer gets a glimpse of the contestant he would be vouching for in the three successive months. This season is no different.

The shredded suitcase

An eventful first day saw the suitcases of half of the contestants being gobbled up by a giant shredder. The shreds that came out of the other end may or may not deceive the viewers to believe that those suitcases were indeed minced, but it was enough for Rupal (who otherwise looked tougher) to break into tears, leaving the others perplexed. What followed was a rather comical dilemma of jodi-sharing outfits. A sporting Keith Sequiera went on a gender bender and sashayed in model Mandana’s clothes. Though it may seem all fun and games right now, it won’t be long when the "sharing is caring" mantra may soon turn to test the patience of the contestants.

Trouble in paradise

Bringing in couples to the show and turning them on each other is a sure shot formula to rake in TRPs. This time round, trouble seems to be brewing in Rochelle’s paradise. Just so her goofy boyfriend forgets, Rochelle clearly (as much as her fragmented Hindi could allow) dropped hints indicating Keith to maintain a distance with the Iranian stunner Mandana Karimi as he was giving a reason for the media to talk.

The snoring genie

There was no rest for the weary contestants at night courtesy a snoring genie, err Arvind Vegda. The quirky contestant, it seems, does not only have a penchant for singing out loudly, he is also skilled at snoring the loudest, much to the chagrin of his fellow housemates. Oddly, without much talking, Arvind and his partner, Ankit, were the first to be nominated because of the nocturnal performance of his nasal cavity.

The case of the missing fridge

While the case of the disturbed sleep kept much of the contestants occupied throughout the day, one soon realised that a fridge was missing from the house. Another (Rimi Sen) noticed there weren’t any washing machines. Rimi, a self- proclaimed peace lover with exceptional tolerance, turns out to be the in-house auntyji who loves to gossip. Meanwhile, Prince Narula who has fashioned himself after last year’s winner Gautam Gulati, the typical Funjabi who has clearly decided he is the winner, warned his simpleton partner about potential strong jodis around them (Aman and Kishwar).

While the housemates may still be getting acquainted with each other, we are happy to be back in the Bigg Boss house and have already made ourselves comfortable with the new crop this season, waiting for the same old drama to unfold.
