Actor Jonathan Majors dropped from multiple projects following domestic assault charges
The Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors has been dropped by his talent manager, Entertainment 360, as well as PR firm, The Lede Company, following his arrest.
This move came three weeks after Majors was arrested on domestic violence charges in New York City, which has led to a court date on May 8, where he faces multiple counts of harassment and assault from the New York City District Attorney.
The actor's personal representation issues do not stop with Entertainment 360 and The Lede Company. Fashion house Valentino has "mutually agreed" that the actor would not be attending this year's Met Gala as one of its guests. Majors' departure from Entertainment 360 was also reportedly due to his personal behaviour issues.
According to Deadline, Majors would no longer be involved in multiple upcoming projects. These projects include an adaptation of Walter Mosley's novel The Man in My Basement by Protagonist Pictures, a series of ads for the Texas Rangers baseball team, and an Otis Redding biopic that has not been officially announced.
Despite this news, Marvel Studios has continued to focus their upcoming Phase Five film slate around Majors' character, Kang the Conqueror. Majors debuted as Kang in Quantumania and has committed to reprising the role in several other films. This storyline is set to conclude with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in 2025 and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2026. At present, Marvel Studios has not provided any comment on the situation involving Majors.
Majors has already shot the second season of Marvel/Disney+’s Loki, where he reprises his role as Kang the Conqueror, and there have been zero conversations in the Marvel camp to drop Majors from the MCU. Most news outlets have reported that neither Marvel nor Disney are considering a recast, but some have questioned whether a recast is in the midst.
Majors' criminal defense attorney, Priya Chaudhry, has released a statement saying that the evidence, including video footage and witness testimony, supports Majors' innocence, and that they are "quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently." Chaudhry also released a set of text messages to the press, where the unnamed victim took blame for the fight and assured Majors that he would not be charged.
Majors' altercation comes amid a successful 2023, with Creed III and Quantumania grossing a combined $745 million at the box office and receiving rave reviews out of Sundance for his turn as a mentally disturbed amateur bodybuilder in Magazine Dreams. Disney's Searchlight Pictures acquired that movie out of the festival and set a December 8, 2023, release date for it.
