64-year-old popstar Madonna was rushed to a New York hospital last Saturday (June 24) when she was found unresponsive in her hotel room. The “Like A Prayer” hitmaker’s manager Guy Oseary finally revealed the cause in an Instagram post four days later.
“Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay at the ICU. Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care.” Madonna’s longtime manager wrote in an Instagram post.
Page Six reported that after a day of being intubated at the ICU, Madonna’s tube was removed even though she remains admitted at the hospital. Her daughter Lourdes Leon was also reported as being constantly by her side.
Guy Oseary added that even though a full recovery is expected, the legendary popstar will have to halt her artistic commitments for a while. That also means a pause on the pending dates of her ongoing Celebration Tour that was meant to kickstart on July 15 of this year and concluding on January 30, 2024.
The shows are bound to be rescheduled now with a new start date of the tour. The Celebration Tour was meant to celebrate Madonna’s successful 40-year-run in her music career. The global trek was set to land in 84 venues but now the logistics will have to be rearranged according to the “Material Girl” singer’s health conditions.
This is not the first instance when a health scare postponed one of Madonna’s tours. A New York city show in October 2019 was postponed when the Queen of Pop reported suffering from a knee injury. Future shows of the Madame X tour in Boston in the next three months were understandably called off.
The “pain from her ongoing injuries” became the cause of further delays in 2020 such a show in Lisbon, Portugal. The same year, when celebrities like Tom Hanks caught COVID and put the world into a cautious frenzy, Madonna too caught COVID in March right in the middle of her Madame X tour.
Seven weeks before her diagnosis, she and her tour crew were already reporting sickness in Paris that they felt was just a common flu.
Even though Madonna made a quick recovery from COVID, her knee injuries proved to be a major deterrent to any future shows. In a now-deleted post from 2020, Madonna emotionally introspected, "If only knees didn't twist and cartilage didn't tear and nothing hurt and tears never fell out of our eyes. But alas they do"
The post also revealed that aside from the pain in her knees, the performer also fell on a stage “landing on her tailbone”. When the Madame X tour did conclude, Madonna sought treatment for what she called her “missing cartilage”.
Extra TV later reported that Madonna even resorted to a hip replacement surgery following the excruciating pain in her lower torso after years of touring and performing on stage.
