Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner fans are reaching for tissues to wipe away their tears as it's now official that the celebrity couple has called it quits. TMZ reported that Joe Jonas filed the necessary legal documents on Tuesday, September 5, to bring an end to his four-year marriage with Sophie Turner.

Earlier, insiders confirmed to TMZ that the estranged couple had been grappling with serious problems in their marriage for the past six months, and matters had deteriorated to the point where they decided to pursue a divorce.

Here are the latest updates:

Date of filing: Court records reveal that the American singer filed for divorce in Miami on Tuesday, September 5, and is represented by the renowned celebrity attorney Tom Sasser, who also handled Tiger Woods’ divorce.

Reason for divorce: The paperwork states that "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken."

Prenuptial agreement: Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have a prenuptial agreement that was established on April 27, 2019. According to this prenup, the singer will reportedly "retain all of his royalties from his music," including earnings from his collaboration with his brothers, as well as his other band, DNCE, as reported by Page Six.

The 27-year-old actress will retain the money she earned from her role in the series Game Of Thrones and any other income from her acting career.

Joint Custody of their daughters

  • According to the divorce documents, Joe Jonas, a member of the Jonas Brothers pop band, is seeking joint custody of their two daughters, 3-year-old Willa and their 1-year-old daughter.
  • He is also seeking a shared parental responsibility and a parenting arrangement for his daughters with Sophie Turner that allows for "frequent and continuing contact with both parties."
  • Notably, Jonas has been the primary caregiver for his two daughters lately, even while touring with his brothers, Nick and Kevin Jonas.
  • Regarding child support, Joe Jonas believes that both he and Sophie Turner should contribute to support their children.

A potential reason for the split

A source informed TMZ that one possible reason for their separation could be the fact that the two led very different lifestyles, with Turner enjoying a more social life while Jonas preferred to stay at home.

Joe Jonas's efforts to save the marriage:

  • Divorce was not Joe Jonas's initial choice of action; he made efforts to salvage his four-year marriage with Sophie Turner. A close insider revealed to Page Six, "Divorce was a last resort for Joe.
  • He never wanted to break up his family, but he had to take what he felt was the best course of action for his girls." The source further added, "An unhappy home isn’t a home, and the truth is that he and Sophie were going through a tough time this year.
  • There’s a lot of noise out there, but it wasn’t a straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back situation like it’s being reported." Unfortunately, the marriage continued to deteriorate, leading to their decision to part ways.

The estranged couple began dating in 2016 and tied the knot in Las Vegas in 2019. They are parents to two daughters, Willa, who was born in 2020, and their second daughter, born in 2022.
