In the recent times, we have seen some good debuts in the Indian cricket team by players like Suryakumar Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Shubhman Gill and Sanju Samson, who have all impressed us with their performances. But there have also been players who stayed in the team for a very short time  and then their poor forms pushed them out of the squad

Here are three such players:

1. Venkatesh Iyer: Iyer was a very promising allrounder in T20 cricket. He made a mark for himself in the IPL playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the year 2021 when he scored 370 runs in 12 matches at an average of 41.11.

  • He was retained by the team in 2022 and was bought back at a high price of Rs 8 crore.
  • Iyer made his debut in a T20Is against South Africa in January 19, 2022.
  • He was seen as a replacement for Hardik Pandya who was then recuperating from an injury.
  • Iyer, however, could not impress much in international cricket and he registered scores like 12, 20, 24, 33 and 35 and 5 in the matches he played.
  • He took 4 wickets in 5 matches.
  • And when Hardik Pandya returned, Iyer was removed from playing XI.
  • Since then, he has not played any T20I for the Indian team.

2. Vijay Shankar: He was touted to be the next big thing in the Indian cricket.

  • The 31-year-old allrounder from Tamil Nadu was also selected for the Indian squad for the 2019 World Cup.
  • He was selected ahead of Ambati Rayudu because of his all-round performance with the bat and ball.
  • Shankar made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in 2018 and ODI debut against Australia in January, 2019.
  • But in World Cup, he could score only 58 runs in 3 matches. He also took just two wickets.
  • In IPL, he has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad team and in 2022 he was picked up by Gujarat Titans at Rs 1.40 crore.
  • But, the all-ounder got only 4 matches to play and he could score only 19 runs at an average of 4.75.
  • It will take some good IPL performances from Shankar for him to make it to the Indian team once again.

3. Varun Chakravarthy: The legbreak bowler has played only 6 matches for the Indian team and after that he did not get picked up.

  • He picked up 2 wickets in six outings and soon was removed from the side.
  • Once, he was the was the mystery spinner for KKR and was retained by the franchise at a whopping price of Rs 8 crore.
  • He even struggled with his form playing for KKR in IPL 2022.
  • In IPL 2022, he played 11 matches and took only 6 wickets for the side. His economy was also 8.51.
  • Just a year back in October 2021, he was in India's playing XI and now he finds his name nowhere. KKR too might release him ahead of IPL 2023.
