New Zealand's rising cricket star Rachin Ravindra's name was not derived from Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, contrary to initial speculations.
His father, Ravi Krishnamurthy, clarified the misunderstanding surrounding his son's name.
Initial reports suggested that Rachin's name was a blend of the Indian cricket icons Tendulkar and Dravid due to his parents' admiration for them. However, Krishnamurthy emphasized that the similarity was coincidental and had no connection to cricket.
Krishnamurthy told The Print, "When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend a lot of time discussing it. The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to use it. It was only some years later that we realized that the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin’s names."
Rachin Ravindra, born on November 18, 1999, in Wellington, New Zealand, was named for its simplicity and ease, unrelated to cricket aspirations.
His father, a software architect and former club-level cricketer, settled in New Zealand in 1997.
Despite residing in New Zealand, Rachin regularly visited Bengaluru, his family's ancestral place, since childhood to play club cricket.
During the ICC World Cup 2023, he met his grandmother, Poornima Adiga, conducting traditional rituals and cherishing family moments.
The 23-year-old right-handed batter has emerged as a standout player in the World Cup 2023, amassing an impressive 565 runs in 9 innings, featuring three centuries and two half-centuries.
As New Zealand gears up to face India in the first semi-final, all eyes are on the young prodigy, Rachin Ravindra, poised for a promising career in cricket.
