Top 8 trends at Amazon India Fashion Week A/W 16: Day 5

Day 5 at the Amazon India Fashion Week A/W 16 had everybody excited about "India Modern", the grand finale segment of the five-day long fashion extravaganza, celebrating the new and reliving the old, bringing traditional and contemporary together, combining home-grown textiles and skills in various mediums, celebrating crafts and the craftsmen.

The grand finale showcased the creations of designers – Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rahul Mishra, Aneeth Arora, Abraham & Thakore, Anju Modi, Samant Chauhan, Rohit & Rahul, Amit Aggarwal and Pankaj & Nidhi.

The designers presented five to six ensembles showcasing their new-age interpretations of Indian design elements, textiles, silhouettes and craftsmanship in tones of indigo blues, earthy hues and whites. All in all, the day was a celebration of traditional and contemporary, minimalism and maximalism along with detailing and blithe.

Some trends that stood out on Day 5 of Amazon India Fashion Week A/W 16:

1. The grand finale was a fine blend of flowy as well as structured Indian silhouettes and edgy western cuts integrated in textiles-like hand embroidered porcelain silk, block prints inspired fabrics, khadi with hen embroidery of organic threads and muslin. Contemporary styles in indigo mixed with gold, austere white and then followed by earthy hues in tones of grey, beige and red was loved by all. The show concluded with distinct western accents in pop colors of reds, pinks and oranges with a dash of pure white and strong metallic blends.

 

2. The designers presented five to six ensembles each using new-age interpretations of Indian design elements, textiles, silhouettes and craftsmanship in tones of indigo blues, earthy hues and whites. Rahul Mishra's collection was an extension of his much-talked about Paris Fashion Week show. He used loads of flower motifs on long skirts and evening khadi gowns. Abraham & Thakore's had a play of gold and dust in ghagras and cholis with interesting hoods.

 

3. Rajesh Pratap’s muse embodied midnight blue and gold creations. Long jackets teamed with pants, the unusually flow of silhouettes and the sleek cuts, the collection was powerful and gorgeous. Anju Modi’s signature intricate thread work, rich palette of colours was all regal and charming.

 

4. Designer duo Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna showcased a striking menswear collection besides the tie-and-dye women's collection. Pankaj and Nidhi's collection had peculiar fishtail middy dresses in the hues of pink and orange. Refreshingly new!

 

5. Sulakshana Monga in her collection, "Soltee" showcased net embroidered long dresses, short jackets, halter tops, tube dresses and fluidy gowns in tones of ivory and black.

 

6. Joy Mitra’s printed silk lehengas in the shades of green, blue and reds were mysteriously appealing. Long kurtas with delicate gold embroidery in floral patterns were paired with lehengas and skirts. Interesting separates, beautiful cuts and elegantly presented.

 

7. Jaya Rathore had edgy racer-back long dresses, cholis teamed with bomber jackets and wrap arounds and kedia tops worked well. The head-to-toe colour match trend was understood well by the designer and the tasseled look never goes wrong.

 

8. Gauri and Nainika’s collection was a wave of fresh air. The colours, the vivid florals in bold prints, minimal embellishments on neat appliqué dresses. Perfect for a day-to-night look.
