How Monisha Jaising surprised everyone with her couture show

The ongoing Amazon India Fashion Week may have showcased a lot so far but uninhibited sex appeal, it surely hadn't. Until Monisha Jaising decided to spice things up a bit with her show that, believe it or not, was on a yacht. Or a ramp that looked like one.

Certainly not one of the more anticipated shows of the season, Monisha's show capitalised on low-expectations and sprung quite a surprise. Here's a look at what worked and what didn't work:

What worked:

The stage

Having a luxury yacht-like ramp complete with male models serving champagne and female models lounging on the side, this was exciting from the word go. Add to that some truly grooving music and the party was sure to rock.

Sexy outfits

A little bit of cleavage always works wonders; just that here we saw a lot more than just that. Thigh-high slits, deep cleavages and sheer panels were all over the collection making it couture with chutzpah. Such a welcome change from the demure shows everywhere.

Colours

Champagne, wine, ice blue, sunset orange and sand were just some of the many sea-inspired shades on the ramp.

What didn't:

Showstoppers

While Pernia Qureshi, as part of the promotions of her forthcoming movie, opened the show, Kriti Sanon did the closing act. However, neither did anything much for the show. From Pernia's ill-fitted outfit which she was busy adjusting the whole time to Kriti's boring outfit, it was all rather drab.

Fusion outfits

When things were purely Indian or completely Western, it was all good. Trouble began when Monisha mixed the two.
