BTS' Jungkook and Jimin have solidified their positions in the Guinness World Records as solo artists, yet fans have criticised the official account for a recent tweet, branding it unprofessional and demanding an apology.

World record achievements

Amid BTS' planned band break, Jimin and Jungkook continue to achieve new chart records in their solo careers.

  • Jungkook's explicit version of "Seven" has shattered records by becoming the most-streamed track in a single week by a male artist on Spotify, amassing an astounding 89,748,171 (89+ Million) streams.
  • The song reached 100 million Spotify streams within just eight days of its global release on July 14, 2023. By July 21, 2023, it had achieved 100 million filtered streams, according to Spotify's Daily Top Songs Global report.
  • Additionally, Jimin's 2018 single "Promise" secured two records. On June 17, 2023, it claimed the title of the most-streamed track on SoundCloud, accumulating a remarkable 330 million plays.
  • It also garnered attention for being the most-streamed track on SoundCloud within a 24-hour period for a male artist.
  • In May, Jimin set the record for the fastest solo K-pop artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.

Currently, Jimin holds three Guinness World Records, and Jungkook holds two.

Guinness called unprofessional - the story

  • A Jungkook fan account tweeted, which has now been deleted, that Jungkook broke the Guinness World Record for the Most Streamed Track on Spotify in a single week (male) with his solo song "Seven" (feat. Latto). The official Guinness World Records account responded with "source plz?"

  • In response, ARMYs, including the Original Poster (OP), provided various sources indicating that Jungkook had recently surpassed Harry Styles' record.
  • Despite these valid sources, both BTS and ARMY faced hate as some argued that "Seven" should not be considered a solo due to Latto's feature.

  • Later, on August 2, Guinness World Records shared an article and posted on their official account, confirming Jungkook and Jimin's new records.
  • In an attempt at lightheartedness, an ARMY member playfully asked for the source, to which the Guinness World Records social media manager humorously responded, "finally found one lol." Later, they commented on their own post, stating, "luckily we found a source."
  • An ARMY follower remarked, you're so embarrassing, to which they replied, it's all good fun.

However, Guinness World Records had already offended ARMYs, and the fandom called them out for their unprofessionalism in provoking hate towards an artist while using casual language like "lol"; later asking them to apologize for the behavior which went viral on the internet.

What began as lighthearted banter took an unfortunate turn, resulting in a negative perception of the platform.
